Republic question
I did a search and could not find any recent info. What are the hiring flight time requirements for the 170 at Republic? Thanks.
|
Who knows.. I think they use the:
1 potato, 2 potato, 3 potato, 4 170, method.. pretty inconsistent and they dont follow the age/time guidelines listed on their website. |
Bedford's 21 children take a vote. Whatever they decide on is where you get sent.

If you mention the circle of stars in your interview you get the 170 regardless. No kidding. It's just up to you to stay in it through the training.
|
Tell them that you always wanted to fly the CRJ or the EMB145, and you'd love to live in any of the bases for those airplanes. Then tell them you don't want the 170. You'll be in the 170 then.
|
I'm serious about the circle of stars. Mention it during the interview.
|
I mentioned it during mine and got the 170.. oddly LB was so excited that I believe she may have dropped an egg when I talked abut the COS lol.. that's just gross, I'm sorry :p
|
what is the circle of stars? how is the hiring for the 170..i'd really like to work for republic b/c of the plane and the bases (DCA in particular)...can you cross over to other types/switch bases?

For real. When I found out the Air Force wanted to send me a ton of students again I needed to either decide to stay or go. I think Quagmire told me about the circle of stars. I wrote an email, he read it and said put the circle of stars in there, I got a call the next day.... No lie.
However I was just jerkin your chain about getting the 170 because of it. But you will get an offer. I've seen some people do some crazy things in interviews and make it. I think your previous record speaks volumes compared to how you are in the interview. |
What type of time do you need to get into republic these days?
|
Seems like 500TT and an internal rec will get you an interview, despite the posted mins of 1000TT and 100ME

I'm sort of at a loss as to why equipment type would matter to a new hire FO. The pay is the same regardless of equipment for an FO. You are hired into a pool here and you would be a fool not to take the first class offered unless you DO live in, or very close to, a Republic or Shuttle base and are relatively sure you can hold it upon hire. Seniority and quality of life are the most important things to consider coming into this field, not the location of the engines on the airplane, especially during times of heavy hiring where waiting a few months can mean 100 senority numbers lower. I am able to drive to work here and I promise you that the Gee Whiz factor of the 170 will quickly fade if you have to make a 2 leg commute (on your own time by the way) to sit reserve in Denver when you live in Louisville. Like I said, unless you live in PIT, DCA, IND, ORD, PHL or DEN take the first class offered. Senority is king! If you choose equipment type over quality of life...no circle of stars for you!
Ps. ADIZ, looks like you live near DCA so Republic may be worth holding out for, but don't overlook Richmond. |

I have an interview scheduled on August 1st. Does anyone know what the outlook is like for upgrades?

Now stop being a tool and don't worrying about upgrade before you even get hired; we're not Eagle. |
I have already spent over five years in the right seat of an RJ and have three interviews scheduled, just tryin' to make the best decision possible because "baby needs a new pair of shoes."

So you got the call for CHQ and took it. When were you assigned the airplane type? We didn't have the CRJs when I started so it wasn't an issue, but I assume you are stuck now as far as getting the base you wanted due to being locked to the 145. That's a bummer. My point is if ADIZ takes a CHQ class he could get the CRJ and be stuck in HOU (where you wanted to be) and commuting back to DC. Is that accurate?

Now stop being a tool and don't worrying about upgrade before you even get hired; we're not Eagle. Also there are roughly 1900 pilots currently. Don't know where that 1000 figure came from. No worries though. I was 1854 when hired and after 2 months was sitting at 1757. I haven't heard of anyone being hired below the 1000hr TT min yet. I do know someone who had his MEI but not the 100hrs. Inbluskyz where are you living? Are you currently with Eagle? We don't currently have a base in Dallas so that's something to think about. Another reason I chose CMH is because we have 7-8 flights a day coming from IAH to CMH. It's very easy for me to commute. Believe it or not I actually like it. It's a 2.5hr flight and I always get a nice nap in after a day of work. |
was hired 4/05 and was awarded stl 140 capt. as of oct. 1st. that's 2.5 yrs to hold captain as of NOW. CRJ is going a month or 2 junior to that. 170 is 3-4 yrs senioriyt depending on base. I don't know where people are coming up with this 1.5-2 yr crap. I was hired at around 1200 on the master list and currently around 1050...that's after 2 yrs 3 months and 90 shuttle america pilots being thrown ahead of me due to that integration. Don't know why, but a lot of FO's hired recently (in the last year or so) are bailing so that may be why some of the newhires have moved up so many numbers. Averaging 10-20 for attrition a month.

To the original poster...don't get your mind set on the 170...I was hoping for it just because I lived near DC for 4 months and liked the area, and was hoping to be based there again. I received the 145 class, and am happy for it. Then again, I live in FL and will have to move regardless. If you already live near a base, that may influence your decision on equipment type. But really try to base the decision on class dates and base reserve time instead of equipment type. Most folks I've spoken with from the last several interview classes are in the 145...some asked for the 170 and got it, but the class dates were usually a month later...that doesn't make much sense to me.

Upgrade times at any airline are subject to change...drastically. Here's the deal at Republic, today.
Most junior guy awarded an upgrade class is a May 2005 hire. However, there are plenty of FO's above him holding out for a better deal (base, equipment, hell some guys stay FO's until they can hold a line as a CA and THEN upgrade to avoid any reserve), so don't let that fool you. Between May 2005-August 2006 there's only about 300 pilots on the seniority list. Should things continue the way they have, upgrade will probably hover around 2 years for those guys (still adding aircraft, high attrition, low number of pilots to upgrade). AFTER August 2006 upgrade time will probably increase unless some significant growth occurs. The reason is between August 2006-Present there's over 500-600 pilots in that portion of the seniority list (almost twice the pilots hired in almost half the time). It takes a long time to upgrade all those guys. Also, eventually we're going to stop adding 175's for US Airways. Looking at dates is good, but you need to know how many people have to get outta your way as well... Now...we are also phasing out the Delta 135's with no announcement of replacement. The rumor mill has been pretty quiet except for people thinking that we'll see 170's or 175's replace them. But if nothing comes of it...well, that's 15 less aircraft to upgrade into. Also keep in mind as the company gets bigger, you're getting more and more lifers on the property. Not everyone wants to go to mainline, I had several in my class that were planning on making RAH a career for whatever reason. If everything stayed the same way it is RIGHT NOW...someone hired TODAY would probably expect an upgrade of 3+ years. Of course...that could all change tomorrow too... |
Any thoughts on what bases are going junior right now? I am interviewing at Republic on next week and live in DEN, hoping to get DEN as soon as possible. I don't mind waiting for a later class date although my seniority will suffer- but I can hold off as I am currently with another 121 carrier. Is it possible to get Republic right now? How about DEN?

there are several people who are in my class with less than 1000 and 100. the guys who are less than 100 multi are all mei's and those with less than 1000 are former mesa

killer do you know how much multi and total time these guys have? And it seems the MEI helps then huh?

Currently there are roughly 71 J4J guys here that will be leaving soon. The Upgrade on the 170s is standing around 2yrs 5months with the most recent hired on 1/27/05. There were a batch of them upgraded from the 1/5/05 class. 145 upgrade is looking at around 2yrs 2months with a batch of 12 that I counted (could have missed a few) from the 3/24/05 Class and a batch of CRJ guys from the 4-14-05 class. This information is a month old. When I was hired I was #1854. There are currently only 1837 pilots here for next month. Meaning we've had a surge in guys leaving. So yes there is in fact a possibility for a quicker upgrade in the future. I've gone from 1857 to 1738 for next month. That's 119 pilots since my hire date. As far as those that have left? June lost 46 pilots. July is currently standing at around 21 that I currently know of. These guys are ranging from hire dates of '00 to '07 spread pretty evenly. If you'd bother to point and click just a little you'd be able to read on your own too. You'd also be able to come up with actual productive comments instead of your usual incoherent babbling. So to the poster that wanted to know there are the facts. I am new here being a 4/5/07 hire. According to POPA and his infinite wisdom that does in fact inhibit my ability to do basic addition and subtraction. However he was in the same class so go figure??? Kilo on another note I wasn't trying to bash lol. Sometimes I forget to put things in like :p;):Detc.(<--LOOK ELLEN!!!). No harm no foul m8. Your info was a little off though. These were the most current numbers I could find. Happy Flying, Duck |

Happy Flying, Duck Anyone hired after Aug 2006 is looking around AT LEAST a 2.5 year upgrade and getting longer (bottom of the list I would estimate 3 years or longer). I'd bet my training contract on it  |
I'm in class right now and have come to the same conclusion. The only way any of us newbs will see less than 3 years is if there is if the growth curve continues or if there is massive attrition due to major hiring.

Attrition is high, but it ain't that high and we're developing our own little group of lifers. The most upgrades I've seen at one time was for this most recent PHL bid...but if they did that every 2 months until they hit you...it would STILL be over 2 years. Not to mention there's just not that many 170 Sims....
