I'm curious, did the parents ask for water? Or did they sit there and fume, whining about how terrible it all was. Did they ask or demand to get off? Or did they sit there, passively, writing up the story for their lawyer? I've never seen a flight attendant deny a reasonable request during a ground delay, not for hitting the lavs, not for some water, even had one make a fresh pot of decaf and serve it, unless they were informed by the el capitan that departure was imminent.
I remember a flight on a now defunct airline, a long time ago, where no water or anything was served during a 3 hour plus delay at DCA.. A full 727, and there were no news stories, no bleeding hearts crying about how terrible that flight was. Besides, we preferred that the crew did not depart into the zero-zero blizzard that is NORMAL for that area. It was all taken in stride, part of air travel. Suddenly we expect air travel to be more reliable than cable TV. . . |

The prices are a bit cheaper, only $240 pp each way on the train, vs about $420 pp each way for full fare on AA. With the lower cost you could even get a roomette, if any are still available. That runs about $200 from Dallas to Chicago, where you change trains. Its a wicked good deal, only $2.50 an hour on the 22 hour 34 min ride! You probably don't want to spend the $175 for the roomette from Chicago to Pittsburgh though, its only 9 hours and 55 minutes, your parents can sit up for that long, right? Ok, maybe they need a roomette for that leg too. Theres a 4 hour and 50 minute connection time at Union station; they might need a hotel. And a cab ride back and forth. No, skip the hotel, there's a lounge they can use. All they need is a first class ticket. See, you can do so much better on a train than an airline, so long as you have the extra time. 2 hours, 40 min scheduled on Eagle, plus that 3 hour delay, nets you 5 hours, 20 min, (an average of 227 mph on the 1211 mile trip) vs 37 hours, 19 min on Amtrak (avg 32 mph). |
You should spend your money on Mesa! I hear all their employees are so excited to go to work everyday that i am sure you will be much much happier with their service, Also GoJets would be another viable option for you and your parents.

My parents were kept as hostages for 3 hours on Monday on a tarmac without food or water going from DFW to PIT the other day on the WORST airline I have ever flown on, Arrogance, apathetic to the customer..The seats on the 70 CRJ it was the dirtiest most uncomfortable POS I have flown on, it was a joke on all levels... Not angry about it, I just know where to spend my money next time...
