I'm not sure you are going to like trading the west coast/mountains for the east coast but If you want to move to EWR, go nuts. At least you will be kind of used to the cost of living (depending on where you lived out west). But if I had to guess, I would imagine the time spent on reserve will increase in EWR before it decreases. The EWR lines have been decreasing slowly for a long time and Colgan is coming in '08 with their Q400s to do CAL flying. Most new hires are going out west which means that fewer people are going to EWR and then bidding out. If the trend continues then EWR could become like CLE (very senior, little movement, reserve time measured in YEARS, crappy lines). Do new hires still go to CLE? Yes, they just never get off reserve and most just bid out when they can. Could EWR end up that way? Who knows. If you live in base, reserve isn't too terrible at XJT. You don't get abused near as bad as some other places and the reserve rules are fairly decent (12 hour call outs, aggressive trip pickup, 11-12 days off guaranteed, immovable days off, etc).

And you think the air traffic out East will make up for the scenery you lose?! NO way dude...Flying East coast day in and day out can get super-boring super-quick. The grass isn't always greener, as they say!

Lets say ferry flights and instructing for four years took its tool.
Flying into and/or around SFO,OAK,LAX,SAN,LAS,TIJ,PHX,ABQ,DEN,VNY to name a few. As to living fees yes I am familiar with them. Born and raised on pacific ocean. Like snow and looking for a nice Jewish Girl to! :)

Would really like to go east. Willing to get a crash-pad if needed. Really find the NE-Corridor fun sometimes. Curious to know what it is like with an EWR ground delay, lines of TS and can't go east from a western dept into EWR and need deviation to another location. Lets just say LAX or OAK or SFO would be a cake walk to live or commute :)

I can understand - I grew up in the craziness that is NYC...it can be intoxicating...great to visit, but bordering on lousy to live in. I guess what I meant by my previous post was that you might want to look into getting on with a carrier that will fly you everywhere. Anywhere in the country is good - in small doses (some in smaller doses than others haha). XJT might be a great fit for you then...also think SKW. Don't know what Lines look like for the Jets at Eagle - gotta ask somebody else, but that might also be an option for you?
