Default How much flying?

I know that the minimum flight time per month for ASA is 75hrs, but how many hours do you guys actually fly a month on average. I would also be interested to hear from pilots at other airlines!

Unless you're on reserve, you'll probably fly 80-90 hours, maybe credit 100 or more if you have good work rules.

Some line schedules (standups) may have you flying much less (maybe 30) in which case you get paid guarantee.

Reserve can be anywhere from 10-100 hours, depending.

For earnings estimates you should only use the airlines minimum pay guarantee. The industry average for small narrow body aircraft like the EMB145/CL605/EMB170 would be about 75 hours MMG. Most pilots currently fly 85hrs as line holders and as stated by Rickair reserve has a very wide range because, well your reserve. Flying 75 hours and being paid 80-85 is based solely on your airlines CBA (union contract) and how the pay system is set up. Generally most pilots will have several hours of soft time (pay above flight hours) due to cancelation pay protection, customs pay, JR Man pay, etc.

Good Luck

At RAH I fly about 85 hours a month...get paid anywhere from 95-105 hours a month...topped out Dec. with 120+ hours of pay while on reserve.

I am still in training (Sims... checkride is in two weeks) but the rumors are that you will fly about 85-90 hours because ASA is so understaffed.

My line for August here at XJT has 99:25 of block (flight) time plus 12:50 of deadhead for a total line value of 112:15. Thats before we start talking about any overs or additional soft pay. However, I only have 12 days off (all the weekends though). Trying to make up for June where I hardly worked and took a couple needed vacations.

BSH932,

Keep in mind that you do not really want to fly more than an average of 75-80 hours a month because it will burn you out. Short term, like picking up some extra cash for that big grill you want is one thing, but ask anyone who flys 90 hours a month regularly and find out what the meaning of exausted is. Not to mention that you cannot exceed 1000hour total for the year (FAA Reg).

Thats the goal! Time out in Nov. and get Dec. off with pay It can be done but you are right, it will burn you out. I've found that even though I could fly more, 80-85 hours and 16 days off is just about perfect. If you get bored and want to make a couple extra bucks you can become an open time hawk and pick up some juicy extra flying on your days off. This can be very lucrative depending on the work rules at your company. I've had a couple very good pickups recently where I have made $90+/hr due to junior man pay and min duty day pay.

you guys, 90 hours is nothing! how can 90 hours of letting the plane fly itself and kicking back and reading the newspaper be exhausting? maybe throw in commuting and airport appreceiation on top of that and then I can see it being a bit tiring. i really don't see how 75-80 hours can burn you out...I've gotten a little buned out lately, but i've been averaging about 120/month.
