Question from the new guy..

Hey guys I've been a long time lurker to this site and Ive found it very informative but I've gotten myself into a prediciment and Id like to know everybodys opinion on it. Ok here goes...
A couple months ago I was interviewed and hired by Colgan and about two days after I got the job offer ASA called and offered an interview. I declined it.. So long story short I've been with Colgan for a short time but ASA called me this week to see if I was interested in the interview. This time I agreed to the interview. ASA would get me closer to home and better pay in the long run. They were actually my first choice but the interview would have been after my class date with Colgan so I chose to stay with them. So my question for you is: What would you do? Is the grass any greener on the other side?
Thanks for any advice!

there are a lot of threads with this same question. IF you look around you might even find the same situation with the same airlines :D

On the one hand seniority is everything... on the other the QOL at Colgan is... well there is better...

Given the fact that you would be closer to home with ASA, i say go to ASA.

How close are you to upgrade?

GearMonkey 07-31-2007 07:17 PM

Well Im still pretty far off. From what Ive been hearing SAAB upgrades are 15 months and "suppose" to be down to 13 by the end of the year. Ive been told upgrades at ASA are 2-3 years? So as far as upgrading goes Colgan is the place to be but Its not going to be a fun ride..

Don't you have a 1 year pro rated training contract to finish before you can bail?

Laxrox43 08-01-2007 06:45 AM

GearMonkey, where you in class this past March?

GearMonkey 08-01-2007 07:37 AM

No I started in April and Yes there is the contract. Not sure if they enforce that or not. I've heard they wont but then again I dont want to be the first for them..

Had a friend at Colgan, left and YES, they enforce the $10,000. training contract. Had to work out a payment arrangement. Chuck is very adamant about that from what I hear. Good luck though!!

Bail.

If you're not going to move to your base just go ahead and quit.

Life is so much better not commuting, its probably worth the 10 grand.

Plus, didn't Colgan just get sold to Pinnacle? Is there a new management in place which might not be as inclined to go after a "measly" (compared to Q400 payments) $10,000?

Or you could call off sick until April. ;)

GearMonkey 08-01-2007 08:10 PM

Well I cant afford to pay them anything right now so I guess I'll just stick around. It hasnt gotten that bad yet.. All the guys here outside of management are awsome. Couldnt ask for better people to work with.
Thanks for all the advice!
