Let me add another congrats!

JetJock16 08-02-2007 06:53 AM

What are you crazy? Are you mad for holding out for a regional like XJT? You could have been flying for quality feeders like BlowJet or Mess-a, why not The Sh1tty Airline (TSA)? You'd make less money; crappy trip/pay rigging, crappy QOL and little to no respect for your carrier. How could you pass that up?

Congrats and have fun!

Well I have 1040 and 200 multi, I have a lot more then I needed but I had some personal stuff I had to do before I could apply. The interview was not bad at all. The first thing you need to do is make sure to have all the paper work they ask for in the exact order they want it. There was people sent home in the first five minutes for that reason. Second thing is that Houston airport is big so follow their directions and you will be ok, just keep following the signs.

The interview part itself is easy if you study for it. The first room I went to was systems, he asked me to tell him about the landing gear system, and then he asked me about speeds below 10000, a lot of people make the mistake that you can only fly 250 in a class B, the rule is below ten thousand, not class B. He asked me about compulsory reporting points, and when in radar contact what can you report to ATC. He asked me what color light I would see at the outer marker.

Second room was jepp stuff. I briefed a SID coming out of Acapulco (sorry about the spelling here if it is wrong). Very easy, everything is on the chart just read it. You take off go about 7 DME turn back towards a vor, there is a crossing MCA for different transitions. She then asked what if we could not reach that alt before crossing the vor, there is a hold depicted on the chart, you fly in that until reaching the alt. Then she asked me some low en route chart questions, grid mora, moca, mea, airspace, blue and green airports, and about airspeed again in bravo.

Last room when all the paperwork was filled out was with a captain and Angela herself. The captain asked me why express, what do I think being professional means, I fly in phoenix az so actual is not very easy to get here, so he asked me how I felt about flying in weather, the key here is even if your ir skills are not that great tell them they are, that is what they want to hear. Angela asked me the automatic hr questions, failed check rides, failed stage checks, anything on your record, FAA actions and if I had any questions for them.

The biggest thing I realized in the whole process is that they want people who are easy to get along with, they have 45 mins or so with you to get to know you, they want to like you. Go there talk to the interviewers, talk to other applicants and just have fun, that is what they are looking for.

I want to thank everyone on here for the great information on these another airlines, it really helped me get to know a company before I applied. I might have ended up at one of these had I been stupid.

You made an excellent choice in coming to ExpressJet, congratulations and welcome! Any idea what base you want?

Don't they require a certain amount of actual IFR?

Hey Skynut,

I start training, Monday, and am hoping for an LAX or ONT base. So the curiousity is killing me...

Where are you sitting reserve? What bases did guys in your class get? When did you finish class? How long did you wait for IOE?

Thanks in advance, for any first hand intel.

Congrats, Prelude. I start training, Monday, so I'll probably be in IAH during some of the same time that you are. Where did you instruct in the PHX area? I'm in the same area...

I am sitting reserve in EWR but that is where i wanted to be. but the class was pretty much split in half EWR and LAX. I hear that ONT it pretty max out and not to many people getting it. but that is just rumor because i do not know for sure.

I started on May 7th passed the PC on June 20th and then started OE July 24th. My roomate started a week earlier so i would say the wait is about 3-4 weeks. They just finished a check airmen class in may.

Good luck! PM if you have any particular questions.

cfii2007 08-02-2007 12:40 PM

What were your times?

kls81 08-02-2007 01:31 PM

Preludespeeder,
I'm thinking about reapplying to Expressjet soon, I interviewed in April and didn't get the job.
I noticed you mentioned something about telling them if your instrument skills aren't that great?
Just curious what your instrument time is and what you did to prepare for the interview?

Thanks,
Ken

SharkAir 08-02-2007 03:13 PM

What color shirt did you wear?

JoeyMeatballs 08-02-2007 03:19 PM

Congratulations, welcome to the team ;)

preludespeeder 08-03-2007 12:51 AM

The instrument time question is kinda a trick one, they want to here that you have been in a sim alot or doing a lot of actual flying. For me, I instructed at Pan Am, they allow us to get as much free sim time as we need. To answer your question, for yourself you should feel confident with your skills but no matter what the case is say you have good skills.

For the clothes choice, I went with a black three button suit, white shirt and a dark conservative tie. They want you to look professional.

I am very excited to be part of the team and hope to meet some of you out there to.

d5pilot 08-03-2007 05:22 AM

I got the offer to interview and picked the Aug 9th. Oh boy what have I got myself into . I've already been doing some preparing but the pressure is on now.

For entering ground school, what did you wish you had studied before entering XJT's ground school?

What did you study that you were glad you had studied?

What did you study that you later found you didn't need to have spent so much time on?

Thanks all!

Jbond006 08-03-2007 05:51 AM

Welcome I start in January and love it and I'm sure you will. Good luck and enjoy the holiday inn.

Study nothing before ground school, I mean it take it easy your 1st 121 training program is gonna be stressful no need studying the wrong incorrect stuff, if anything just read through the flows and all that stuff just to get familiar, they will teach you the systems etc................... Know the limitations, COLD, but agian one can memorize those in a 1 day, so what I did was memorize like 5 every day, sounds dumb but after 2 days of repeating the same damn thing every 20 mins, your not going to forget it.

The biggest thing I see people having problems with is getting to into the systems, have a working knowledge and an understanding of the systems, but dont go crazy your a pilot not a mechanic, also you will learn a lot about the A/C systems on the line :) good luck, and stay away from the F/A's...............there will be plenty of time for Shenanigans later......believe me ;)

Superpilot92 08-03-2007 06:01 AM

Know your flows, Know the movements and where to look during the flows. Dont stress out trying to understand why your doing each thing until you get to class. good luck

I think they're putting some of you in the Sheraton. Saw a few U27** numbers on the sign in sheet the other day. Is that for training or IOE?

I have been wondering this for a while. I have an interview comming up and I am dreading the "do you have any accident/incidents?" question. Are they talking about flying or driving as well cause I have a few toll runs and one for a stop sign which caused an accident on my record. The accident was almost ten years ago though but it is on my record. Should I tell them this?

What about misdemeaners that ended without a conviction? Plead no contest.

I am not a bad person really :)

With that question, they are referring to airplane accidents or incidents. When I interviewed, they never even asked about traffic violations. That was two years ago, though.
