Default Rumor mill MESA and Republic Airlines . .

I have not validated/verified the following statement, however, a few individuals I know at Chautauqua (read . . .they have been there a while flying and in management) have indicated that Republic is seriously looking at acquiring MESA (buying them) for their contracts.

There are many reasons that this could make sense. Especially with the onset of MESA's slumping profits (nonexistent) and their falling share price. There could be a cash/stock deal in the works . . .

Curious if anyone else has heard squeaks out there about this . . .

RAH is leveraged up to their eyeballs for the E-Jets. How could they afford to buy anybody, especially MAG who has a fairly hefty amount of debt themselves?

Besides, who does MAG fly for? Delta, United, US Airways...just like RAH currently does.

I try and keep track of every possible rumor circulating within my company, and I have heard NOTHING about purchasing Mesa.... not even a comment. Our CEO wants the ultra-long-term goal to be a fleet of all E170/175s... he has said he wants "out of the 50 seat market" eventually. I don't think buying Mesa would be part of his plan.

Edit this post and replace the word MESA with Comair and you might be getting warmer! By the way, thanks to whoever that Comair captain taxing west on the northline today around 1800 local in cincinnatti, your professionalism is very much appreciated. I have middle fingers too but I usually keep them in my pockets or near my other 4 fingers when I am in the presence of other crew members!

I guess that means he doesn't want to fly for CAL long term either!

No, what it means is he wants to fly E-Jets for CAL long term.

But as Mick Jagger told us, you can't always get what you want...

I agree.

And to all those delusional souls that hope to see an E-Jet with a blue tail...well, let's just say...when Lorenzo comes back to run CAL...that's when it will happen.

I keep saying it will never happen but the management is definitely in the works to make it so. Bossman said they took the 50 seat contracts to get the foot in the door. I honestly hope we don't get it. I don't like anything over 50 seats flying regional.

As far as RAH buying mesa that's the last thing they need. They are making money hand over fist and are at the brink of their staffing levels as it is now. acquiring someone else's understaffed airline for their routes would hurt us way more than help. The poor performance we'd inherit with the problem wouldn't look good.

Maybe we'll buy them just to get their pilots. Then we can staff the E-Jets. BB also seems set that we will be flying 190s in the near future. I'd say that's worse than 170s for CAL.
