The flight was already oversold with revenue passengers, but this person demanded to bump a passenger so they could go home. This change put them on reduced rest for the night. After they got off the phone with scheduling, they said if they get tagged when they get back to CVG and not get to go home, they'll just call in fatigued.
It's stupid **** like this that give us crew members a bad name.

With the information provided, I do not see anything wrong with this situation. Our contract says first DH scheduled within 2 hours of the end of the assignment. Reduced rest is unfortunate. Being fatigued after a reduced rest is likely.

Everything here is legal. Its not right, but it is legal. Scheduling does the same thing to us and I am OK with that.

Exactly, what good is the contract if we won't hold them to it. I want the first DH regardless if it bumps a paying pax, not my problem you have us DH all over gods green earth. They bump enough paying passengers, they will cut down on our Dead heads...bid trips should never have a deadhead in them...it is inefficient.

What I failed to mention was that this DHing crew had overnighted at the outstation with the intent of catching a DH later the next day. They went to the airport early morning to non-rev home, against what was their published schedule. When they arrived at the airport, they learned that a flight to ATL was delayed and the pax were rerouted through CVG. The flight had filled, and when they saw they weren't going to make it as non-revs, they called scheduling to demand their DH be changed, so they could be positive space.

Additionally, you don't see anything wrong (not contractually, I know the contract and I know its legal) with convincing scheduling to put you on reduced rest, then announcing to everyone that if they try to tag you you'll just call fatigued "just because I don't want to fly." This person was not fatigued at all. They just weren't in the mood to fly. It seems as if this silly profession was getting in the way of their personal lives. God forbid they actually have "responsibility" for their "job"

Let us talk about responsibility for ones job.

I will not explain the specific responsibilities of a pilot, it is in the Ops Manual and I think you know it. And although I don't know the specific responsibilities of a scheduler, I would hope one would be to ensure the legality of a crew-member's assignment. Personally, I do not trust in that happening all the time, both from experience and hear-say. When I call scheduling I expect the person on the other end to be knowledgeable, intelligent, and honest. I do not always get that. To me, that is not taking responsibility their "job."

Also, I do not want to hear a sad story about new schedulers and short staffing. I am expected to do my job at a 100% level the day after IOE, so they should be allowed nothing less as well.

CYRCADIAN: No i don't verbally abuse anyone, however if a pilot wants to talk down to me like i'm a child, I have some choice words with them. Im not some kid who just graduated high school. When i served in the military I never was spoken to like some pilots talk to me and I refuse to put up with there Bull S$*t. I tell everyone who im training dont ever let a pilot degrade you. Yes there are some people down there that have attitude that need some adjusting.

Responsible No we dont check your lines everyday cause we cant do it, thats why its a joint responsibility you look after your self and ill try and look out for all 1500 pilots. It you feel you need more rest then take it and if your right your right and if your wrong well then you can answer for that. When Im ready to make the jump to the line i wouldn't trust anyone but myself to check my legal issues, cuz its my license.

Short staff yes but its a problem that a revolving circle, the union says your on hold to long an do something about it. The company response is we will cut training down to get more people on the phone, there goes the training, so when they get down there and aren't as knowledgable as they should be, they get frustrated an quit, starts the cycle all over again. When i went through training it was 3 months long on one contract, now its a 1.5 months and on 2 contracts, so who is getting screwed here ??? everyone
