Hit the nail on the head

60% of the reserves are in the short call window
40% of the reserves are in the long call windows

Makes it very difficult to schedule wonder why it seems as if your tagged everytime you come into CVG, why we dont drop anything. yea there people at home but when you have a 9hr call out well alot of good they do. Let alone a 12hr call out. September is a slow month to begin with so hopefully is picks up and we will be back in business.

FTR - Are you a scheduler?

I was really excited with my schedule this month...lol, bid Long Call so I could get out and see the family and friends a little but mysteriously I have ready reserves scheduled at the begining and end of my Long call windows which forces me to stay in cvg all the time...I would be p/o'd if I was a commuter with this schedule, thank god I moved to CVG

All in all I still enjoy Comair, its really not that bad not flying much, and getting paid the same...it allows for more pool time ;) although I would still prefer to break minimum each month, when my seniority reaches a point where I can upgrade I probably won't have the required flight time, if things keep going this way.

BlueMoon 09-08-2007 11:08 AM

I spent 2 plus years on reserve and the lowest I flew was 30 hours one month (December of 2005, when it got really ugly here). Most were in the 70 plus range.

I woulda killed to sit at home like some people are right now.

par8head 09-08-2007 11:44 AM

Whoa hey, I am not complaining...its kind of nice actually especially with it being summer time, (Sitting at home that is) like I said earlier, I am concerned about not having enought TT to upgrade when My seniority number comes around...

Also we are getting trips but they tend to be unproductive which I am sure we all know, again for some people it is nice, personnally If I am on the road flying, I want to fly...once I get home, I want to sit. Some of the frustration is in the 10-12 hour 4 day trips, it is hard to get to minimum with productivity like that.

Life is good, no real complaints

DominAirTrix 09-08-2007 12:48 PM

I'm in class now and they are telling us 24 newhires a month from now until summer next year.

I have over 1000TT and am slllllooooowwwwlllllyyyyy building the 'ol multi.....a couple of my buds got in with like 60-80 multi around easter time. In any case a lil birdie told me they were planning to drop the mins to a wet comm multi certificate...

Well, you know the biz then. Around here rumors fly faster than airplanes! But hey rumors are rumors. Who knows what will really happen? Whatever.

All offers subject to change. Participation may vary. All applications will be accepted. JFK crash pad on approved credit. Minimum 6 month reserve, plus tax, title, documentation and uniform. See airline for details.

The question was asked "why the mass exodus" a while back. QOL, morale, money, better outlook elsewhere, you name it. I know 3 guys with nearly 4 years exp. who went to Pinnacle to get Capt. awards. I know they have slowed this now, but thats a lot of seniority to lose for a lateral move (even if it is for an upgrade). Still, I concidered it too.

I didn't start looking until they cancelled my upgrade (along with nearly 80 others). Then I decided I was done here. After a 13% paycut and nearly 20% reduction in flying over the summer, as well as losing 2-3 days off per month with the crappy lines they are putting out, I just couldn't see staying around any more. You would think with nearly 5 years here and bidding in the top 10% in the seat you could get a good schedule, but you would be wrong. On top of that, my last few pay checks have not broken $1000. And I am not the only one that has happened to.

It appears management is trying to take a page from Mesa's management book. They are telling senior people they aren't wanted any more while having trouble filling new hire classes if they stick to their published minimums. One rumor has them looking at private multi quals. You can get your commercial when you take your checkride in the sim at the end of training.

There are 3 new hire classes in October according to the bid packet. 32 total pilots. I hope they are wrong and that 24 a month turns into 50/month as people keep leaving for greener grass.

RiddleEagle18 09-10-2007 09:45 AM

20 more pilots left the company last month according to the October bid packet.

10 CA's
10 FO's

Explain to me maybe my math is not that great but I assume you are not on First Year Pay, Thus I am going out on a limb and say you are getting paid $35 per hour, if your gurantee is 75 hours that equates to about $2600 per month taking 30 % for taxes leaves you with about $1800 per month now if you get about $400 for per diam that would total about $2200 per month I dont know if you choose to drop everything on your line or what your situation is but you should be making no less than $2200 per month and thats just with the monthly gurantee. I dont know maybe my math is all wrong,

On another note Keep the RUMOR going, thats what keeps this industry intresting he say she say LOL got to love it,

Fly Safe

DomainAirTrix - where are they sending guys after their checkrides - still JFK? I'm in the 9/24 class. If you want JFK, will you get it?

Yeah, I am going to raise the BS flag on that one too.

Not breaking $1000 on 5th year pay? I don't think so. On the flip side, I know a guy who is 2nd year and walked away (take home) over $3000 in one check. So, its all what you make of it.

I'm pretty sure that you'll get JFK out of training. If for some reason you get CVG, you can bid back to JFK and get it in the first couple of months.

Diver Driver 09-10-2007 01:24 PM

Just placed my bid today in the 8/27 class. We all got JFK, standing bids for CVG were placed by about half the class. They speculate we could get it by the end of the year... not sure how accurate that is though...

andy171773 09-10-2007 01:31 PM

i'm in the 9/10 (Diver, we met at lunch with my friend Chris)..I'm almost expecting an ironic Boston base just cause of all the hype and speculation around it..which of course would be ironic due to the fact i just moved from there..go figure

Alknew182 09-10-2007 02:00 PM

I'm in the 7/30 class and was just awarded CVG, but not untill Feb...

para8

Thanks for your p.m.

I try to be fair as much as I can. Remember Sept typically is a slow month. Alot of guys flew there Ass off last month then we just slowed down. However all the extrafly we have been given away we are going to pay for it in nov and dec so enjoy it while its slow. I know personally I am.

Im sorry about the rude scheduler you encountered.

we recently lose a scheduler who was a problem for everyone

fly safe
God Speed

Keep Capt. Tarter in your prayers

Hi Rip... I would be willing to bet my life savings, all $1.25 of it <cheezy grin>, on your getting JFK... And I will see you there! As my colleagues have said, for those looking to get back to CVG too, the latest is by Nov or Dec, but as always, subject to change.

But it was also said that reserve at JFK would be just a few months, that does not seem to jive with what those of you who are already there are saying, though perhaps that was meant to be true after the hiring increase? How did youze other guys hear that? And yeah, I'm in 8/27 with ya <wink>...

ladder1423 09-10-2007 05:40 PM

I went to Skywest, I was only at Comair 6 months.

You make me feel even better about leaving after only 6 months. I knew that place wasn't for me. The pilots were awesome to fly with but management has no clue what the hell is going on.

Did he get promoted to a spot recently left by a guy who now flies for Delta? Or am I thinking of another guy with the same first name (not sure if there was two)? He was one of the better schedulers but had a severe attitude problem.

Hey, I think Boston could be a possibility in the future because of our growing presence in the northeast, however, I don't think it will emerge as a base any time soon, if ever. Everything is purely speculation at this point when it comes to future basing if any basing expansion happens at all.

TristarJS30 09-10-2007 06:26 PM

I know lots of guys (and gals) that believe BOS will open sometime by the start of summer 08. I've heard (rumor...) that the company thought it would be insulting to the GSO/MCO crews to open BOS right after closing down the other two bases. But, when has the company ever thought about insulting us before?

Jim Murray, awesome guy and I wish him luck at Delta. Anyway, I'll be kind of sad not to hear your perspective from scheduling but I wish you good luck on your interview. I sat with those ramp tower guys for a couple hours as an intern. Some hard working people that can be underappreaciated if you have no idea the multitasking that they have to do. Good luck on your career and keep posting.
