i feel bad for all you guys that always complain about how little money we make as pilots. guess what guys, we live in a world in where there's a little thing called supply and demand, if you can't understand that, then maybe you should go back to school. i know when i decided become an airline pilot, i knew the pay was low, the hours long and the days can be crappy, but i decided to pursue this career because of the many other benefits besides pay. so please stop complaining about these things or else find yourself another career, and if you got into this racket to make money, then i feel very sorry for you.

...but never stand for less than what you are worth. |
you guys missed the point. If he thinks he is better off than a major FO because he gets more cents per seat thats whack. Don't think that way or it will never change. This old guy has flown for regionals, majors, and now corp so I do understand the diff. My refrence to the 8 seater was to show how floawed the pay per seat logic is.

We need to add Great Lakes. Max FO pay $20/hr. Fly 19 seats = $1.05/seat.
WOW!!!! EVERYONE, quit your current airline job and put in your application @ Lakes . . . the pay is tops in the industry per seat, and the upgrade time is S-H-O-R-T . . 6 months, if you have time. Plus, you get to fly into a BIG Class B Airport, in Denver, CO. How Cool! |

Plus, you get to fly into a BIG Class B Airport, in Denver, CO. How Cool! What ellen does make a great point of is how flawed the dollar amount per seat analogy is. And she uses Great Lakes, look at us at Big Sky, the numbers only "appear" better. Reality is, as people have said over and over again, you're flying a plane that was once being flown at the major we all hoped to retire at. Until people can get their head outta their @ss on that one it's not gonna change. What does need to change though is people complaining about it while on a drunk tangent and do what it takes to make it better. |
The point here is that we are replacing the jobs that we got in this industry to get. Pilots have a choice of where to work. Bottom line, don't work at a place that has crappy work rules for the quick upgrade time. We are/were professionals and don't need to put up with this BS when times are on labors side nowadays. Just because you have 250 doesn't mean you need to go out and work for Mesa, TSA, and Pinnacle. Management is still cashing in on the dream that we will get that quick PIC and go on to make mucho bucks flying the heavy metal. Look at the trends, everybody is expanding at the "Regional" level. A lot more of us will be "Regional" pilots. Once we are OK with that, maybe everyone should start negotiating pay rates that you can make a decent living at a "Regional".

U People who don't know basic math...
United max FO pay on a 737 is $91/hr. Divide that by 122 seats on a 737 and that comes out to getting paid about $0.745 per seat. United max FO pay on a A320 is $91/hr. Divide that by the 154 seats on a TED flight and makes $0.59 per seat. ExpressJet max FO pay is $43/hr. Do the math... $0.86 per seat. SkyWest max FO pay for the 50 seat RJ is $41/hr. That equals $0.82 per seat. |

People like you are the reason why there are f/o's flying 70-90 passengers around for $20-24 an hour. Incidentally, how long have you been in the industry and what fantastic outfit do you work for?
