Got the call from...

...AWAC, and placed for the interview on the 10th of Oct!!! Anybody else going??:D
Any word of wisdom about AWAC, and the interview??? For those who work here, what do you dislike...? I just hear good things... If hire, what would be a good domicile to commute from Miami??? IAD??
any help will be greatly appreciated!!

HercDriver130 09-28-2007 02:27 PM

I interviewed at RAH the other day and a female type who was interviewing that day as well said it was very laid back, no sim, lasted like 30 minutes she said. But thats just what she told me. Good luck...her BF was at AWAC as well... fwiw.. she had a conditional offer from AWAC.

CGreek 09-28-2007 02:33 PM

what's a conditional offer????

tg020 09-28-2007 02:33 PM

Congrat and good luck. I have a friend sent in couple weeks ago, gotta check to see if he has got a call yet.

AWAC has 3 domiciles in ORF, DCA, and PHL. I'm not sure about commuting schedule yet but DCA and PHL seem to be commuter choices.

wi_pilot 09-28-2007 02:40 PM

Got hired a few days ago. The interview goes by very quick. Just be yourself and answer all questions honestly. I know it's been said here plenty of times, but they are looking for good character/personality pilots who won't be hated by the CA after a 4 day trip.

HercDriver130 09-28-2007 02:45 PM

Her conditional offer was based on flight time. She had 320 with 180 of ME time and they wanted her to book another 100 hours before committing her to a class date.

Conditional offers mean they want you the applicant to accomplish something before you get to class or they assign you a class.

Got ya!!!

so, no sim ride?????????

HercDriver130 09-28-2007 02:49 PM

She said she had NO sim ride at AWAC.... we did have a PCATD at RAH.

AWAC does not have a domicile at IAD anymore. They are DCA, PHL and ORF.

Commuting to DCA is probably the easiest though because of the proximity to IAD and BWI.

i just sent in my resume last week and have not heard from them yet? are they busy right now? and where is the interview at?

Yes they are busy. Expect to wait a couple weeks to hear from them. Usually you have your choice to either interview at their corporate headquarters in Appleton, WI or do an offsite interview at DCA.

CGreek 09-28-2007 03:02 PM

Yeah I ment DCA!!

mmaviator, I applied online about 4 weeks ago, then sent my resume via email and got the call about a week after. I'd say keep on trying... Somebody told me that, in general, hiring will slow down approaching the end of the year, and pick back up at by mid Jan or something.. dont know if its true though..

wi_pilot 09-28-2007 03:06 PM

CGreek, just out of curiosity, why are you applying at AWAC when you're currently in a Lear 35? Seems like a lateral move...

uhh many reasons...
right now I just hate the "hurry up and wait" stupidity, add a very disorganized operation, a 24/7 standby, the worst work rules I've heard of, disrespect from fellow crewmembers and the life in a third world country... to name very few
I was lucky to get the kind of experience I've got here being a low timer... but I've realized I don't have to deal with it anymore.

mmaviator 10-06-2007 11:49 AM

thanks CGreek for the help i will keep on trying

Am I the only one kind of glad to read this?

flynavyj 10-07-2007 07:18 AM

kinda glad? dunno, might be confused....was that 320 as in 320 TT? if so, i'm shocked! least at AWAC.

HercDriver130 10-07-2007 09:34 AM

YES...she had 320 TT and 180 ME

GoingdaDistance 10-11-2007 09:18 PM

CGreek, how did it go? I had the interview right after you.

N5139 10-12-2007 08:54 AM

CGreek -

You wouldn't happen to be working for a 135 operation out of Georgia, would you?

FliFast 10-12-2007 10:22 PM

Congrats Greek,

What base and equipment, do you know yet ? How long is training and where do they conduct it ?

Tailwinds,

FF

CGreek 10-13-2007 04:24 AM

Bases are given during class! DCA or PHL most likely I guess.
Only one type of equipment CRJ200.
2 weeks basic indoc in Appleton Wisc. than 2 weeks of sys training in charlotte.

BoilerUP 10-13-2007 04:30 AM

"Explain Exemption 3585."

"Exemption 3585 means you're ******in going!"

:D

(note - some instructors don't appreciate the humor of that statement)

;)

Actually ORF is the junior base right now.

is it?????
I was told otherwise in the interview!! but oh well, I'll have to wait and see.
I want DCA, how's reserve looking like in there?

wi_pilot 10-13-2007 06:18 AM

Just about all of our class bid for PHL or DCA. No one got DCA, and 4 out of 11 got PHL. There is still a fair amount of attrition so you might get it after a few months, but for now DCA is the hardest to get.

Flyboy8784 10-13-2007 09:44 AM

Reserve flying in DCA has been really light....there is no open time for the month of October either....PHL has alot of guys flying right now...however its def not as nice to live in PHL. Im thinkin ORF is gonna shrink a little bit because of Mainline pulling out of PIT....alot of our ORF flights involve PIT routes. I had heard the other day that the DCA Inflight Manager said she just got out of a meeting stating that LGA and RDU were going to open up as bases in 08....along with that theres another rumor floating around that PHX could become a possible base as well. Any of u guys in Indoc right now should ask Kevin Laware about this....id like to hear more about it

I graduated from Indoc on Friday.

FYI, if you want DCA, bid for it and you will most likely have by the time your done with training. I got DCA RES just after systems was over.

That's great news CGreek!

I got the call too. 29 Oct Class.

From what I have read here looks like DCA might just be there for us.

-Going...

saab2000 10-14-2007 07:57 PM

There is now steady attrition and movement. Not ultra-fast, but enough to keep things moving. You'll get the base you want without too much waiting.

Don't worry.

Welcome!

Work hard and have fun! This ain't a bad place. At least the pilots you will work with are cool.

Tigertail 10-14-2007 09:23 PM

interview date?
