Go park your car in Compton around midnight and yell all those racial "jokes" that you find funny. That act would probably result in a dialog about what's appropriate and what's not. My point of course being, "joking" about racism and throwing out blind insults here is also inappropriate.

Just so everyone knows about the UND uniform. The students do not wear them. It is not a stripe it is a green UND aerospace on the epilate. No one wears wings here. And they make us wear the uniform to project a professional work atmosphere and that we are standardized in what we do. I am not sure if he is an instructor here because I do not recognize him but we have 120 new hires this year so I do not know them all. This is not whether I agree with the uniform it is just to straiten it out.

Oh, dear. Did he just tell us he is from my alma mater, and then write, "...straiten...?"

As the other UNDer said, the picture is of a student at UND who is not exactly the norm. The typical I want to fly 747's type of 200 hr, SJS student. He represents the 1% at UND.

Yes UND has hired a ton of new instructors. It feels like I just started yesterday (year and a half now) yet apparently I'm considered an old dog among the instructors. The one thing I haven't forgotten is the respect thats due towards the older pilots in the industry. Obviously the current generation of instructors is having one of the easiest transitions into the regionals. However, when I talk to my fellow instructors in between flights, I'm appalled at the lack of understanding of the industry that most of them have or just the total lack of research they do before leaving for the regionals. Granted I obviously don't know it all, however can't believe so many of them leave for an airline with no idea of the contract, couldn't tell you what last quarter's balance sheet said, or even when the contract is up for negotiation. So many are willing to leave to the lowest bidder instead of accumulate another 200 hr. dual given to go to the better regional. I for one don't get it. But the thread is true, instructors these days think there entitled to something within the industry. Sad to say, many of them are my peers.

I skimmed to get in my 2 cents.

Since I'm a "young" pilot can say that I personally don't have a sense of entitlement. I think a lot of "young" pilots are angry at "old" pilots for pulling the rope up behind them and then screwing us to a life of 10 years at a regional before hoping for a mainline job. You can blame bankruptcy, you can blame management, you can blame a lot of things. I personally blame the fact that we're all flying around in 50 and 70 seat aircraft across the entire damn country because scope got relaxed to hell. Then, to top it all off, we're all looked at like pond scum for flying these jets...because apparently there's a lot more ways to get 121 turbine experience then flying for a regional.

Speaking of instructor uniforms, we just went back to nice polos at MTSU. Much nicer than the pilot shirts. And, shockingly, just as professional. We had a couple of alumni drop by our meeting last week and they asked each of us to tell them where we wanted to go, what kind of flying we want to do. The "old" instructors had solid names and pretty well defined career goals. The new guys generally said "I just want to fly." We were all there once. The new problem is that the regionals are sucking up new pilots who, as stated before, don't understand much about the industry. They just want to fly. I can't totally fault that, but I think it's extremely shortsighted to jump at the first company that offers you a jet without knowing that company and whether or not it can help you fulfill the goals you have.
