Default Another Q400's gear collapses; fleet grounded

Happened today to an SAS Q400 in Denmark. How many times has this happened now?

That's at least 3 "high profile events" that media picked up on. Not sure how many other aircraft have been involved.

Who flies the most Q400s in the states?

I'm sure the FAA won't like this latest incident.

We do! (Horizon Air)

I could use the time off, frankly.

Oh, and the gear didn't 'collapse'. The right MLG failed to extend to a locked position.

I'm so glad we've bet the future of the company on the Q400

It was probably frequency matching of the video camera frame rate (or something), but did it look like the right prop was windmilling to anyone else?

Also, I wonder if it's a local maint procedure, but the previous Q400 gear problems were on SAS aircraft too.

Since the Q400 prop isn't metal it is likely to shatter upon contact with the ground. This was an issue in the first SAS accident as some pieces of propeller made it through the fuselage and into the cabin. Feathering the prop on the side with the failed landing gear will hopefully prevent the prop from shattering, or at least reduce the energy of the prop shrapnel.

The crew seems to have made a great landing and I'm glad they got it down safe. It sure pays off to practice gear malfunctions in the sim.
