Default CHQ Pseudo-dilema...

...but not really. So here's the deal: I'm going to be living in Chicago. I was offered--and accepted--the CHQ certificate. I called both Linda and Kim on Monday to request a switch to the S5 cert to be able to live in base... heard back from Linda but since she didn't offer me the job she has no say, so I'm waiting for Kim to call.

So for all I know they could just tell me to go pound sand. But my question is this: let's say I face the decision of starting CHQ on the 16th of this month versus taking S5 and possibly starting training as late as December/January. Would attaining those extra two months seniority on the CHQ certificate but commuting to--say--STL outweigh living in base on the S5 ticket?

I suppose in the scheme of things it's not a bad problem to have.

KD doesn't seem in too much of a hurry getting back to us about class dates. I was offered S5 10/29 but then was moved to the S5 11/27 class. After hearing that both 10/4 and 10/29 S5 classes were cancelled I emailed her to confirm 11/27. No word back as of yet. I live in Chicago too and would love to know if I can count on S5 11/27. Good luck.

Madman....... Try emailing her if you havent already. SOMETIMES she is more responsive via email, allthough I have sent her several as of late that have gone unanswered.

And just as a point of reference, they don't answer emails after you work for them either. Its equal opportunity disrespect.

You also may find if you are using a generic email address that the new uber-spam blockers catch your message. We have been urged to used company email whenever possible.

So I got a rather speedy response from Kim via email. Looks like the next available Shuttle class wont be until early 2008. I suppose I'll just take CHQ and make the commute work. I'm not too excited about waiting around for 2-3 months.

I would say thats the smart thing to do. Seniority is just about everything in this industry.

Especially at this company. Early 2008 could mean about 100 numbers worth of seniority if not more. Plus, STL is known for it's high time, very commutable schedules. And it's very very junior. Best base in the RAH system if you're going to commute.

At this stage in the game, any base for FO's is pretty junior...
