Want to see how they clean those cups in your hotel room?

In another thread we were talking about the coffee pots. Here is an undercover video of how they clean your glasses. I for one, have never, and will never use the glasses, coffee pots, or touch the toilet. I am actually shocked that the "seasoned travelers" were suprized by this. I thought this was all common knowledge.

that is why i carry lysol. I lysol everything i am going to touch. The nastiest thing in a hotel room is the remote. think about it.

TristarJS30 11-07-2007 05:50 PM

I always swipe extra hand wipes from the plane before I go to the hotel and wipe down the remote, telephone, light switches and toilet. I always pull the sheets up and check the edge of the mattress for bed bugs, and a quick scan of the sheets to see if they look new. Most hotels re-use sheets in the name of being "green."

Roper92 11-07-2007 05:55 PM

That is lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous! Absolutely disgusting!

TristarJS30 11-07-2007 05:59 PM

Al Sharpton? Is that you?

Fly IFR 11-07-2007 06:03 PM

Wow, thats terrible! I never expected those glasses to be clean by any means, but that! Sick! I will definitely take precautions from here on out.

Roper92 11-07-2007 06:04 PM

Jackie Chiles!

FL600 11-07-2007 06:11 PM

One word: EW.

palgia841 11-07-2007 06:28 PM

I agree...pretty gross stuff. I prefer some "cheaper" hotel chains where they just give you the individually wrapped plastic cup.

But it's not like the airline business is any "cleaner".... CAN YOU TELL ME WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THEY CHANGED PILLOW COVERS AND BLANKETS AT YOUR AIRLINE?

Last week I was flying 1st class Delta domestic and the blanket sitting on my seat had 3 huge white stains on it.........

Roman 11-07-2007 06:57 PM

Thats just Disgusting!!! But usually I bring my own one time use cups and use them on a trip, some hotels even provide reusable cups.

Ill be aware next time.

ExperimentalAB 11-07-2007 08:13 PM

I believe it!

Yo Roper - you with NASA now?!

i actually ran into Al this morning in DCA. He was pacing back and forth jabbing away on his cell phone. I really can't stand that guy, and seeing him in person didn't make me feel any better about him.

saab2000 11-07-2007 09:11 PM

Bring your own. Seriously. I do.

Green and clean.

Win/Win.

ghilis101 11-07-2007 09:16 PM

well at least theyre not spitting in the cups

kalyx522 11-07-2007 09:26 PM

I just use a tissue or piece of toilet paper to touch the dirty surfaces, like light switches, sink faucet, air conditioner knob, TV/remote control (I've read that the hotel remote control is one of the grossest things on earth, more of a hot zone than a public toilet). I've been to plenty of hotels where it was apparent the sheets hadn't been replaced. (Not the blanket/comforter because we all know those never get cleaned anyways, but the actual white sheets.) I would see crumbs, bugs, and most often, curly little hairs on the white sheets. (UGHHHH.) I've also seen little hairs on supposedly new towels, it's sick, I mean this is what you use to pat your face after a shower and it has curly little hairs on it from god knows where/who!!! Several times in different hotels I was in the room at the same time the maid was cleaning it... and I noticed none of the maids ever wore gloves or washed their hands... basically, she would replace your sheets with the same bare hands that cleaned the toilet.

wolf 11-07-2007 09:59 PM

I'm not surprised at all. I never use the glasses unless they are wrapped in plastic, and then I still rinse them off. If I use the coffee machine, I wash the pot with hot water and soap and then run a cycle or two of hot water through the machine before I use it.

As for the TV remote, I think that is without doubt the single nastiest thing in the room. I always use a remote condom. Most hotels have an ice bag, which ALWAYS ends up on the remote in my room. If I need ice, I get another bag. Always use protection...

Roper92 11-08-2007 05:05 AM

Good point kalyx. My IOE check airman really stressed to me how important it is to pull back and check the sheets before you climb into bed. I have yet to see hair in my bed thank God! However, I frequently see one in the shower and/or on a towel.

Freightpuppy 11-08-2007 11:31 AM

Do I want to see it?

No. Ignorance is bliss.

Be very careful, FA's and other women love to wash they're "hoses" in the coffee maker.

You might as well just bring those disinfectant wipes with you then and wipe all that stuff off yourself. I'd think that's less of a headache than all that.

Man! You guys are germophobes! LOL! I know the thought of all that is gross stuff but you all might as well walk around in a hazmat suit. I definitely would NEVER eat in a restaurant either...have you all seen those hidden camera videos?

I have heard this before but I would be grossed out washing my hose in a coffee maker...that in itself is disgusting. I would think the hose would be cleaner if I just took soap and water and washed the hose in the sink.

UnlimitedAkro 11-08-2007 02:54 PM

This is common practice! Those maids are just doing what they were taught to do! Dont use the cups period. Unless its the plastic ones with the wrapper around them.

Also dont use the remote, or the toilet, or the bed, or anything else in the room.

To avoid germs you have to sleep standing up in the corner... but usually that isnt clean either.

weasil 11-08-2007 04:26 PM

Well I feel sick...

cfii2007 11-08-2007 04:38 PM

This is precisely why I wash my hands 10 times a day!!!!!!!!!!!

ExperimentalAB 11-08-2007 05:14 PM

Um...I know it sounds disgusting, but aren't we all just animals anyway?? Isn't this what an Immune system is for?! That system, you forget, needs to be excercised just like any muscle in your body! If you get all squeamish and bleach everything you contact, a little flu-bug is gonna come around one day, and kill you!! Remember: Excercise LoL

F-90 Driver 11-08-2007 05:25 PM

After you take a shower in the morning toake the sheets off of your bed, put them in the tub and turn the water on.

The crew behind you will be thankful. (our crews usually stay in the same 3 rooms)

There may be something else at play here. I used to know a guy who brushed his teeth 10 times a day. (psst. not normal)

ghilis101 11-08-2007 07:49 PM

i bet your yokes, throttles, and O2 masks are dirtier than anything in your hotel room. i personally like to eat the greasiest food i can find, and then hand fly. :)

weasil 11-09-2007 03:59 AM

Because we always use the same rooms for crews I always take all the towels and sheets and put them in the tub so that they have to put fresh ones in for the next guy/gal. I had no idea about the glasses though, never even occurred to me they wouldn't be fresh ones from a dishwasher.

Dashdog 11-09-2007 04:53 AM

Hmmm, I guess I'm getting old here, but I remember when anyone caught wiping down everything with disinfectant and only drinking stuff that's sealed in a plastic bottle would have been considered OCD, or maybe just gay. Man-up a little here people, and that goes for the ladies as well. Maybe you'll stop being so scared of everything if you stop watching so much TV news.

BTW, this goes for everyone but you Brian. ;)

skidmark 11-09-2007 04:59 AM

I am not a germ a phobe, however, I always try to clean the tv remote. People just lay in bed scratch themseleves and watch teletubbies.

LAfrequentflyer 11-09-2007 05:05 AM

Man...You people would never survive outside the USA.

Killer51883 11-09-2007 06:30 AM

Off to clean the remote! :D

LOL!!! I just spit up my pepsi laughing!

Bwatz 11-16-2007 10:35 AM

Dashdog, I appreciate you not associating my OCD with "taking it in the jaw"... Lets not forget that it was me who busted the maid for not changing my sheets. Remember that? I also have to point out that at the same hotel I got athletes foot from the shower... (This is the same hotel where Alex had the shameful dirty trucker sex. I told him to just take a cab, but he wouldn't hear of it. I think he still has that dudes dirty John Deere hat.)

Yea, that was some real CSI stuff there, but let's not forget that they were YOUR sheets.
I think I saw that hat in the crewroom last week. It had an "I love NYC" sticker and a little set of bull horns on it.

IlliniPilot99 11-16-2007 11:18 AM

i worked a hampton inn while in college to support my booze fund...let me tell you about all the rumors...they are are all (mostly) true!

we had to fire several housekeepers one time because they were found to be not changing the bed sheets with clean ones...

...other ones get more graphic
