The thing is, being on reserve here is not at all that bad. Our reserve work rules are quite good, allowing you for example to fly a lot (if you commute lets say) or fly hardly at all (if you live in base like me). Unfortunately, it seems that reserve times in EWR are about to get a whole lot longer. This is due to CAL shifting flying to CLE, and the fact that the dreaded Q400s are due to eventually arrive. My advice? I certainly wouldn't base my choice of employer on reserve time. Go with the company that has a base where you live/want to live. I can tell you from experience that being on RSV while at home sleeping in your own bed is 1000% better than commuting and sitting in some grungy crash pad... even if it is for a while longer.

What do you mean dreaded?

I have a feeling this is an anomaly, but I got 18 days off this month. It took a couple of swaps to make that happen though.

What about 9E? Reserve times versus domiciles?

Horizon is over a year for the RJ and roughly a year for the Q400. Now they they are loosing some people to other regionals they are starting the hire in the Q200 again for new hire. I would personally avoid Horizon unless you want to live here and dont mind a 6 year upgrade.

Probably the fact that they are becoming famous for malfunctioning/collapsing gear problems.

I spent one month on reserve at CHQ (145) in May where I didn't have a choice. I sat 2 more months of reserve that were self-inflicted so I could have weekends off. On my one month of required reserve, I never got called out. All of my assignments were notified in advance. In 3 months overall, I was only called to hurry to the airport once.

ProPilot, are you at 9E now? Or looking to go?

PSA 1-2 months depending on base.

I did two months on reserve out of LGA with CHQ. The first month was some flying but not much. Last month was filled with 4 and 5 day trips which got me above minimum gurantee. This month I have a line out of CMH. Most guys in my class that arent in LGA or STL are holding lines. The ones in STL and LGA have a bit of time still to go but are flying frequently.
