I thought the CA & FO alternated in terms of being PIC. CA is PIC on first leg, then FO is PIC on the second; and so on and so on. Is this true? That way, you can build up TPIC time at a rate of about 550 hrs/yr.

You serious? PIC is the typed fella who signs for it, even if he never lands the thing once on a whole 4-day

Did All ATP tell you that? Sorry man, the Capt is the only one to log PIC in a 121 operation.

Saab:

When you say typed, isn't the FO typed for that a/c? Or is the CA just doing the time building thing?

No. I think I may have read it somewhere on APC or @ JC. I'm not sure.

pretty good question!, here at Expressjet the F/Os are SIC typed, which is worthless but at Big momma CAL they get typed of the bat, but they still aren't signing for the airplane. There using that type to go to Brown or SWA, haha j/k sorta :) so even if you are typed doesn't mean you are the PIC

Now I see why every one is so adamant about upgrades. It's all good. I'm learning. Better to be ahead of the game so to speak when it's time to dance, than to have them lead. ;)

The CA is the only one that the company will type. The FO is not required to have a type rating in the aircraft. The CA is the PIC, as the FO you log SIC. Most places alternate legs, but just because you are flying the aircraft, does not make you PIC. By the way......3yrs to upgrade at AWAC.....I wouldn't exactly call this "long."
