I was browsing through http://doihaveafuturehere.org/ and was wondering if there are any other AWAC employees who have something to add or subtract. I have some general questions abotu the company.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of working @ AWAC?
Is there a moving fee (relocation fee) that AWAC gives out?
Is there any sign-on bonus ?
How long did it take going from reserve to line?
How is scheduling after reserve?
How do you feel about the benefits that AWAC has to offer (jumpseating priveledges)?

Advantages- Second to horizon, we are the best paid regional in the industry...the trip and duty rigs are a huge bonus. Maintenance is very good...sqawks are minimal usually if any...
AWAC doesnt give a moving fee...but you have time to relocate in the contract...you are given days i believe 3-5 days off depending on the distance u need to travel. trips can be dropped during this time and you still get credited.
No sign on bonus- we arent hiring for growth, just attrition...there is no need to lure in new hires with a sign on bonus, unless of course it came down to the point that we got a huge addition to the fleet, and couldnt keep the planes staffed
I was on reserve for 2 months. Im pretty sure if u want a line fast, that PHL is your best bet. ORF and DCA have the same amount of lines and as of the last vacancy notice, 17 pilots left PHL
The lines right now arent very commutable...its either commutable on one end or the other...if they are commutable on both sides, they are pretty senior. so plan on hotels or a crashpad...or moving in base...

As far as travel? we are CASS just like all the other regionals and majors...our priority on US Airways isnt terrible...but we are behind the wholey owns (Piedmont and PSA)
Bottom line....everyone complains about something at their respective airline.....id rather complain here than anywhere else

You don't have a future at AWAC.

what ive gathered is a lot of the guys that work at AWAC were there for the long haul, not treating it as a traditional regional stepping stone.
i still think AWAC is a great place for people to go, get time, and move on. its not like they are losing flying for nearly the next decade.

I don't think AWAC is any different then everyone else out there anymore. The difference is by being public, the other airlines have the ability to grow quickly (such as Republic). I doubt you will see any growth at AWAC, personally I wouldn't be surprised if they were sold or simply walked away after declaring bankruptcy depending on the arbitrator decision.

And you are right mccube, this was a premier airline to work for back in the day....Captains were totally content flying the BAe 146 makin 6 figures....then they had their planes and pay taken away. The pilot group is fighting for whats right...they gave consessions based on a plan that fell through.....those captains that have been here since 01 deserve every penny.
Im still in my first year here...im not entitled to any retro money nor do i think i deserve it, i do think we deserve higher pay for the work we do, and better work rules. Thats why im helping the cause.
This is still a great airline....but things can always be better

Think MAIR Inc. / Mesaba bankruptcy. Far fetched? Maybe. Maybe not.

I still believe that it is. Is it the old AWAC where people went with no intention of ever leaving? Heck no. But is it one of the best regionals out there today?? In my opinion...yes. Pay, Contract, and QOL aren't bad at all. You could do a LOT worse.
