I was on an overnight in RIC a couple nights ago and my CA and I went to dinner. When the hotel picked us up they had to go to the airport to pick up a crew. Well three Airtran flight attendants got on board as my CA and I were discussing the Alaskan flight with the stabilizer problems, and were talking about ditching. Well we were in plain clothes. This one flight attendant invites herself into our coversation and begins to give us a lesson on ditching, and how the 717 is safer than the 737 and why. We were totally shocked, she just kept rambling on. When we were almost at the hote she asked what brought us to RIC. We enjoied the look on her face when we told her we were pilots and were on an overnight.

I was in the hotel van in SBN when the two people sitting in front of me and the CA started talking about how "those CRJ's aren't safe and will crash if an engine fails." :rolleyes:

Nothing new......I went to medical school in Albuquerque. One of my mother's friends heard that and said that it was a shame I could not go to school in the US.

We're still Co-pilots in the military, I catch myself saying "Checked Co-pilot" all the time...would you slap me toolface? Sometimes I even refer to the Flight Deck as the "Cockpit." (*Gasp*) Even if someone wasn't in the military, Co-Pilot was the name of the position for half a century, it is what it is.

I can't believe that people can be that ignorant about geography, but they are...I saw a story on tv that said 1/5 of Americans can't even find the USA on a map of the world. What's this country coming to....

Its a daily routine on the 19 hundo. If you have a problem with someone talking on the phone, just stand there and let the other passengers know we aren't moving till the phone is turned off. A mutiny quickly arises and the phone is promptly turned off.

And the poor co-pilots...errr FO's don't even get co-pilot status as far as the passengers are concerned. They get worried since the FA is climbing up into the pilot's seat.

BTW...What's the inflight movie...I just thought that one up right now.

About 10 years ago on local TV an airliner of some sort returned to the local airport with a rubber jungle deployed after a problem with the ECS system of some sort. They interviewed some of the pax deplaning and one of the aviation experts stated: "Well, the oxygen masks came down, but I don't think they were working because my ears were still popping."

I guess he didn't watch the safety demo where the FA clearly showed how to put two masks over one's ears...

Recently, on a dead head flight out of O'hare, we are delayed being pushed back for de-ice on a bad weather day. After we sat for about 10mins, the CA informs us that the de ice trucks will arrive in 5 mins. I could tell the guy behind me is starting to get irritated and is wondering why this is taking so long. We finally push back after only about 30 mins at the gate (pretty short time for getting de-iced.) During taxi, the CA informs us again that it will be a shot wait prior to take off due to the weather and the number of departures ahead of us in line. Thats when the guy behind me turns to his wife and says " see honey, that why I always fly on SouthWest."

I guess I forgot that not only is SouthWest the greatest airline ever assembled, and it is also unaffected by adverse weather.

I had someone sitting behind me this morning while we were getting deiced ask why they were washing the plane. I thought it was just another stupid joke until another passenger had to explain the deice process in detail to her.

During new-hire training I was having lunch in the break room right next to where the FA classrooms were. I started talking with one of the FA's, and she asked how long my training was. After I told her six weeks, she was visibly upset...saying "You mean to tell me I could have gone through training for another three weeks and been a pilot instead of a flight attendant?"

I still shake my head about that one.

So, I'm flying the BE20 up from Naples, Italy to Stuttgart, Germany. We took off a little before sunset and I set the cabin temp to what looked to be about 75 or 80. I'll be the first to say that the temp gauge is the only thing in the 200 that I'd kick to the curb because it really doesn't work. We were comfortable up front all flight but after we landed the passengers sitting right behind us mentioned that they were freezing the whole flight. I told them that they should have tapped one of us on the shoulder and told us (as I previously told them to do in my pax briefing). The response... "I didn't think you had a heater on board so I didn't ask." Good Grief.

Not from a dumb passenger, but... Best quote from one of my passengers "If the Serbians at the airport want to inspect any of this stuff we are putting it back on board and leaving immediately." (Refering to about five locked mail bags and four locked footlockers.)

This happened to me, as well; it also happened to a friend of mine on a separate occasion. To which I say WOW.
