Banging up RJ's tonight...

Coming to you via iPhone at ORD LoL, what happened to AWAC? Heard they busted up the gear on landing (in DCA?) in some wicked x-wind??

And in other, breaking news, a SKW -200 just took out a CAL tug on the taxiway here at O'Hare...no surprise here...those guys whip around here like they're on the streets of Chicago, not a baggage tug

It was in PVD, ran off of the runway. No one hurt.

I find this amusing, because amid all the endless discussions on the board about "300 hour wonder pilots", the two incidents tonight involved AWAC and SKYW, neither of which hire "low hour wonder pilots".

So obviously the problem is these pilots were TOO experienced! :D

As others have stated, inexperienced FOs CAN cause problems. But apparently experienced Capts and FOs can too.

(Now granted, the MKW runway overrun for 9E last year DID I believe a low-hour wonder FO, but that just ruins my mojo on this)

Bad stuff can happen even when people are experienced. Glad nobody was hurt. The weather on the east coast sucks right now. I just did an MDT turn out of IAD and the winds were like 270 at 28 gusting to 44.

Fly safe everybody.

The SKW incident involved the right wing...I will be sure to be more alert during taxi...an FO with his his head up could have gotten on the brakes I'm sure. I've had to do just that a couple times here this month alone.

Fly, and Taxi, safe!

Hours have nothing to do with it. I'm guessing the culprit possibly could have been the large snow storm in the upper NE that snarled traffic, shutdown Boston for a while, and had snow and icy runways? Just a thought. Everyone is vulnerable to this whether they admit it or not. Airplanes big and small slide off runways every winter, and I don't recall the ice ever asking how many hours the pilots had before it decided to be 'nil'. Lets not make this another thread about appropriate pilot hours. Only those there know what happened, and the important thing is everyone is ok.

"...but for the grace of God go I."

Said a few weeks back when it happened to Mesa twice and Pinnacle once, said when Pinnacle went four-wheeling in MKE, said a couple years ago when Skywest went of the runway in CWA.

Can happen to ANYBODY in crappy weather...

OK, OK, I'm not trying to stir the pot on the whole "who has enough hours" thing.

Very tongue-in-cheek :o

Yes, AWAC has hired a few low-timers. Yes, it could happen to anyone in those conditions. Glad no one got hurt. We don't know what happened.

Moving right along....
