With Big Sky closing down in BOS, that could very well be a possiblility.

CL-65DRIVER 12-20-2007 06:13 AM

Oh goodie more DCI carriers. It's going to be so much fun!!!!!

Apollo 12-20-2007 08:14 AM

Is it for the Saab, or Q400?

CRJDriver 12-20-2007 08:17 AM

It's funny how everyone thinks they are getting more flying or bases since the Big Sky announcement. Comair thinks we get all the flying back, Colgan thinks they are going to do DL flying, the XJT guys think they are going to get a BOS base...

flybywire44 12-20-2007 08:28 AM

What? ASA ATR72 BOS Base? :p

Trip7 12-20-2007 08:37 AM

last i heard Delta was reducing DCI to 4-5 carriers...

Actually , at XJT we don't....just guys who live in Boston with some wishful thinking...we have no more airframes, period.

read the news boys, Comair is getting some of the flying back.

Comair to take over Big Sky flights out
Bangor Daily News
December 20, 2007

Big Sky Airlines, a Delta Connection partner that flies from Bangor to Boston, announced early Wednesday evening it would discontinue its East Coast operations Jan. 7.

Despite Big Skys departure, Delta announced Wednesday evening that Comair, another Delta Connection carrier that serves Bangor International Airport, would pick up the Bangor-to-Boston route, according to Anthony Black, a Delta spokesman.

Comair presently flies the Delta Connection flights from BIA to Delta markets in Atlanta and Cincinnati.

On Jan. 7, Big Sky will cease operations at 16 airports from Tennessee to New York and from New Jersey to New Brunswick.

Delta Air Lines will refund tickets or reroute customers to other flights if they hold Big Sky tickets booked after Jan. 7. Delta reservation agents will contact customers, including those from Bangor, who have flights scheduled after that date on Big Sky, Black said. Customers can also call Delta directly at 800-221-1212.

Comair will begin service "almost immediately" after the Jan. 7 Big Sky departure, Black said. Comair will fly to Boston twice daily using 50-seat regional jets, replacing Big Skys six daily flights that use 19-seat turbo-propelled planes, according to Rebecca Hupp, BIA director. Big Sky had been flying four flights daily from BIA since it began service here in April, but had added two more daily flights on Nov. 4.

"Clearly there is demand for quality service and there is a market between Bangor and Boston," Hupp said from home Wednesday evening.

Hupp said she expects the change will improve the Bangor-to-Boston route service. The 19-seat planes were not popular with BIA patrons.

"I expect that passengers will welcome the return of the 50-seat jet," she said.

Big Sky is a Montana-based airline that began contracting in April 2007 with Delta in small and medium-size markets, and operating out of BostonsLogan International Airport, according to a press release. Big Sky and Delta mutually agreed to cessation in services. Big Sky cited unusually bad weather, disappointing revenues and fuel prices as reasons for its departure. Big Sky will continue to operate in Montana as it works to transition its services to another carrier.

The jobs of approximately 140 Big Sky employees - primarily located in Boston; Watertown, N.Y.; and Covington, Ky. - will be eliminated, according to the airline. The company has engaged a broker to assist in the sale of its East Coast aircraft.

That's only BOS-BGR. We also used to go to Fredrickton and Trenton.

mregan 12-20-2007 10:59 AM

i asume that whomever gets most of the flying will be doing it in turbo props, COMAIR always did BGR-BOS up until Big Sky did it, but that s a good sized market, however I cannot not see anyone running a regional jet for BOS up to Massena (MSS) and Ogdensburg (OGS) NY....so if the props are gonna do it , then I assume it must be Colgan who s gonna get that flying....good for COMAIR though for getting some of that flying back.

meritflyer 12-20-2007 04:12 PM

Lets see, Delta is shedding DCI carriers and block hours but they're going to pick up another carrier?

Sounds like the guy that started this thread has some wishful thinking.

777Forever, is that you?!?

iflyjets4food 12-21-2007 05:00 AM

Didn't they just open a base in CVG? Who will run CVG-OWB?

TristarJS30 12-21-2007 05:06 AM

My guess is Delta will let all of the EAS routes go. They wanted to cut hours anyway. Maybe a few (ALB, BTV) will get picked up like Bangor.

good guess

dingo222 12-21-2007 08:50 AM

colgan doesnt have the planes, crews, or need to pick up the delta flying. We don't have a single spare airframe right now.

Apollo 12-21-2007 09:18 AM

Is Colgan still hiring?

usmc-sgt 12-21-2007 01:33 PM

Colgan is definately hiring but primarily for the q 400.

They are also hiring for the saab because they are making saab capts Q capts and upgrading every fo they can to fill the voids. Of course there is also plain old attrition.

Apollo 12-21-2007 01:38 PM

usmc-sgt,

Thanks for the update. Any word if the Q400 rollout is on time? EWR would be a very good base for me.

usmc-sgt 12-21-2007 02:25 PM

still on time, I actually have a photo of number 1 all painted up. You can have my spot at EWR

I hope they continue to find FO's to upgrade so I can hurry up and get MHT as my base. I hear there are 2 FO's ready there for upgrade. I know I am #2 on the list for the base so that's a positive. And I am #3 for PVD but I think that wil take some time if it's even around when my number comes up. So what are they having you do to keep busy until the Q rolls out? Semper Fi. Former 0311, '89-'93. (2d recon bn)

flyguyniner11 12-22-2007 04:47 AM

I know one guy in Mht is going to be in my class on jan 15th

Fluboy340 12-22-2007 05:24 AM

The Q is delayed untill the the begining of jan. Not long just till the 3rd or 4th. Right now only looking for street capt for the saab. No classes for Saab fo until March. Really need Q fo. Thats the latest. looking for to be capt on the Q soon in ewr.

flyguyniner11 12-22-2007 07:24 AM

just heard a rumor that we're getting dash8 200's also. Aparentlu it was posted on bombardiers website for a short period but was taken off because apparently they weren't supposed to announce it yet

That's ture! Got word from a good source up here in YYZ. But for some reason they just don't want to annouce it yet, just like our routes for the Q400.

flyguyniner11 12-22-2007 11:27 AM

i guess they'll be replacing the saabs

Laxrox43 12-22-2007 12:05 PM

That's what I was told yesterday too. The Dash is a good ship, and it would be nice to be an all Dash fleet...but here's my problem with the whole deal...PAY! I don't want to fly a bigger a/c if I'm not going to be compensated. Also...we need Piedmont-like wages for the Q and the 200 if we really are going to get them...

Looking forward to next Fall when we can start looking at some sort of representation to bring on-board. We need a contract badly! Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those "gang-buster" ALPA hobo's, but now that we don't have representation or a contract, I will be interested to see what Buddy Casey does to us at the turn of the new year when he is 'officially' in office full-swing...

OK...enough bickering...

usmc-sgt 12-23-2007 04:29 AM

shamrok,
You should be able to get MHT shortly. One of my friends is there and he is VERY close to upgrade and may very well be that upcoming jan upgrade class as I think he holds number 2 in that base. Ill definately be jealous, that is the reason I applied for the saab and MHT but I will make the best of it.

As for the rumor I heard from a reliable source that it is the Q300 and not the 200 but then again who knows. It would make sense as it is a common type, although besides the way a few levers and switches look there is no similiarity between the 200,300 series and the 400

As for what am I doing until the plane arrives.....? I am guessing nothing since i only have the type in the Dash and I wasnt hired to answer phones in manassas so id say sitting around and waiting.

Apollo 12-23-2007 05:35 AM

I saw that there are no Saab FO classes until March. Does anyone know the Q400 FO schedule (how many per class, how many classes per month, all internal FOs)?

Thanks in advance.

Laxrox43 12-23-2007 05:43 AM

I don't know how the new Q's are, but the old Dash 200 and 300 were similar in a lot of ways.

I guess the way they started the Dash-8 series was the 100, then the 300, then the 200. They took the 100, took all the kinks out of the 100, then built a stretch version out of that. (ie. the 300) Then they took the 300, put a variation of its engines and all of its guts, for the most part, and crammed it into a 100 shell. So basically, the 200 is a refined 100. The overhead panel, and instrument panel of the 100, 200 and 300 are quite similar. The only noticable difference on the overhead panel is the airconditioning/heat (don't remember the term for it) panel, on the 200 and 300 are different from the 100. On the instrument panel the only thing that comes to mind is there is no Flight/Taxi switch for the spoilers on the 200 and I think 300 as well.

Now as for the Q400, I have never even been in one, so you got me there...

Merry Christmas folks! For the Dash guys/gals, enjoy your time off until the proving runs have been completed and you all get a chance to do IOE. Good luck!

skidmark 12-23-2007 06:35 AM

all i know is those dash 100/200 are a waste of money as they are always over weight

How many times you take a full boat on the SAAB? QX seems to be restricted on their -200s, but @ Piedmont we could take 37, alternate fuel, and just about all the lost bags they found sitting around in PHL without a restriction. It was a good plane, so we got rid of them for more -100s.

Hey SGT,

Well at least you can enjoy the holidays with your family before things get going with the Q. I know you wanted MHT from your previous posts so I feel your pain. Actually I live closer to PVD but hear that there is no movement there for now. MHT is a much shorter drive for me than ALB where I am now. Like you said, I 'll make the best of ALB until I get MHT or PVD. Sounds like we both did our instructing in the same stomping grounds. I instructed out of Worcester (ORH) and Lincoln, RI (SFZ). Happy Holidays!

Does the Q 200 have a APU, that's all I want?

yeah the ones I flew (-100/-300) had them but I was told they were an option with the company I was with. The Dash is a good plane yeah it can be overweight at times but good for short regional routes in and out of short fields. I know the Saab 340 is faster than the Dash 100/300. Where the -200 has -300 engines on a -100 body. Kind of a 100 that went to the gym.
