So what's your advice to a rotor guy with a bunch of flight time (helo) and 141 mins fixed wing? EMS? Chopper 4?

While I know of ONE person hired at RAH recently with less than 400 the lowest hours in my Shuttle Class is probably about 1200 with tops around 2800 or so. Average probably near 1500 hours or so, and 10 of 21 with prior 121 or 135 night freight time.

I guess that's why we have had pilots flunking left and right... AND THEY KEEP GIVING THEM EXTRA CHANCES LIKE CRAZZEE! There's a significant # of pilots coming through who have no instrument skills- can't hand fly to save their life. One was +/-1,500ft and +/-100kts just trying to stay level... wow. I am flabbergasted. Oh, and speak English? That is a plus these days too...

I am in "IOE Guy" over there. I will admit some days are difficult, at best. Day 1 IOE, in and out of the world's busiest airport is a "challenge". However, I have been fortunate that I have never found any newhire to be unsafe. They do pass the same checkride I take ever 6/mo, with the exception of 1 maneuver. The lack of overall enroute IFR experience and handflight skills does show however.

Don't feel bad, ExpressJet has removed their number(s) and posted this on their website......
Pilots are responsible for ensuring the safety of ExpressJet customers while working cohesively with co-workers on the plane and on the ground. ExpressJet is recruiting skilled individuals with the drive to establish a career with the largest regional jet operation. If you do not qualify for our pilot position at this time, please reapply in three months. Minimum flight hours may fluctuate as the airline industry changes and ExpressJet grows.

To make some of you guys feel better, I applied to quite a number of regionals and had my resume walked in to several. (even the ones hiring at commercial multi) I have about 300tt and 70 multi. I am still going to instruct, but just wanted to see what would happen if I actually got a call.
Guess what? I have not heard a thing from anyone except for airnet. I take that back, several came back with an e-mail and told me to get some more time. So i guess they are not hiring everyone at 300tt.
I thought I'd just throw that out there.

We've all been there at one time or other, but even I, who am quite tolerant, am tiring of the inability to get a proper ATC clearance, communicate properly with ATC, operate the systems with confidence/competence, etc.
If the airlines are going to hire low timers (not a bad thing in and of itself IMHO) then the FAA needs to make sure they have the basics of IFR down pat. Going from flying around the patch in a 172 to flying an RJ in and out of LGA is a pretty big leap.
