Why the heck are people still doing that first officer program at Gulfstream????

... there is no explanation, especially with the current job market. I encourage any and everyone to sway people away from them.

I saw their booth at OSH this year and told them that they SUCK.

I really can't understand this persistent and inexpicable phenomenon either. But then again, with this job market why would anyone go to Mesa, GoJets, or Colgan either? Or for that matter, why would anyone pay for a CRJ type rating (an even bigger waste of money than GIA) or "transition course" when you can get both for free? I've discussed all this many times with friends, and all we can come up with is that there must still be a lot of guys who simply don't know any better. Combine an unknowing and naive person with one of the plethora of scumbag flight schools who employ very convincing salespeople, and this is what you get.

I believe it was Thomas Tusser who said: "A fool and his money are soon parted." An addage thats as true today as it was in the 1500's when he said it.

Well, in my honest opinion, "fools" just don't know what they are getting themselves into. They are fresh from CFI, or getting their ratings and too caught up into flying for an airline to do their research. Where there are some "fools" that actually do the research(then they are no longer fools), others don't decrease their ignorance level and set themselves up to remain "fools" for life. Something as simple as joining a forum much like this can help one with their ignorance. Airlines are gonna sell themselves by showing their strong points and focusing on the competitor's week points.
I urge the experienced pilots who experience this day in and day out to educate the "fools", much like myself. That way, we don't set ourselves up for failure and possibly force management to make it a change for the better.......

Why people go to ATP? Why people go to FlightSafety? Why UND? Why ERAU? Why people buy WV vs. Chevy or Cirrus vs. Cessna or Snickers vs. Kit Kat.. Same thing..

ehhh, no I dont think is the same...
I mean, you're paying 30,000 so you can get a job with one of the worst regionals to work for!!
I mean its not like paying more for a better car or something like that

I have a couple of friends from college that went to gulfstream here in MIA. The reason is simple, they are extremely desperate to be part of the Regionals and they hate the idea of flying c-172's teaching kids to build their time. They barely finished their Associate in Science degree this semester even though they missed the last 3 weeks of class since they went to training before finishing. I don't think it is a good idea to be so desperate, specially if you have some money to keep enjoying the good life that we have in College (30,000$). But they are my friends and i respect their decision.

I would use that money to "accelerate" my career in some other ways... like not working overtime in Domino's Pizza to pay for my college and my training (as i do now) and instead dedicate myslef more to school by doubling the amount of credits that i actually have (about 12) to 21 credits or something like that so i can finish earlier and get my Bachelor's at ERAU as soon as possible.. but hey... thats me. I thank god for this forum, cause a few months ago i wanted to go to gulfstream too, but reading for months this forum taught me that it is the most dumb thing to do in the world...

Welcome to the site. Most people here are great, yet you have the 5% that are total morons. Don't pay them any mind.
