Typically min 10 days off max 16. Most 12-13. Legs average about 5-6, most i've seen is 9, sometimes as low as 2. Junior Manning occurs in cycles. |
What about TYR crew? Are you guys still hiring street captains? What's the chance of a street captain getting TYR?

And to add to this, what are the chances of a new FO getting IAH or TYR? posted mins are 600/100, but what gets an interview?
As far as a street CA in TYR. We have 7 lines up there right now and none are open at this time. You may have a better chance on IAH but since you seniority would be so low to other CA's and upgrading FO's you would work reserve lines and stand up's...not the best at all. |
It is usualy a cold day is dispatch for them to have a crew member cross the Masson Dixon Line. If your in the CoEx system the ususaly will not let you work USAir. As for hiring, well can you fog a mirror? :)

Anyone have an example of a typical schedule of IAH legs? Are they out and backs, I had heard there are some overnights? Usual days on / off? What is the average time you are crediting per month? I'm interested in staying in Houston, but have something on the side that I will be continuing with, hence the scheduling question. Just want to see if Colgan is a feasible option for me.

Keep in mind that you may not get IAH from the start and have to put some time in somewhere else. Then when you do get it you will have crap lines while building seniority. There will be days when you come in for two legs and that is it and days you do a standup and that is it. IAH is not best place to go from the start. Go somewhere and fly and build your senority up and then when it is good enough to hold a decent IAH line ( 8 months or so) then bid it. As an FO you need to fly to get hours and sitting reserve is not the best thing. |
Thanks for the info Juice. Believe it or not, those 2-3 leggr's and standup lines actually wouldn't be that bad for me, neither would reserve (long story, too tired to explain right now). Out and back would also be great, it would enable me to spend more time with my family. If I decided to go Colgan, IAH would have to be the only option, I am not going to the N.E.

Know its kind of off topic, but I was curious as to when the first flight in the Q would be, anyone know? Also have any of the lines been posted yet?

I'm not trying to post flame bait here, just relaying what I've read here over and over again. Being able to be based in EWR was a very strong positive for me, but it was certainly not the be-all and end-all. |

If that is how you feel about Colgan, I think you should probably forgo it. If that is how you feel about airline flying in general (not willing/able to take a domicile outside of Texas), you might want to consider another line of work.

Computerguy and Juice, thank you again for your information, it is appreciated. |
Arrow75,
You are right to put your family and your goals first. You will get IAH if you want it, however you might have to commute a month or two. It all depends of course on Colgan's needs. |
FWIW, the only month I was actually happy at Colgan was when I was TDY in IAH. It was like working for a "real" airline.
Ahh.. memories of DRT overnights ;). I miss seeing W.D. from Del Rio, what a pretty young lady. |

Thank you for the advise, but that consideration is not needed. I can and will be flexible for an employer, but I am not uprooting my wife and kids, for a $21/ hour FO position. There are many employers who understand and appreciate that. If the opportunity is not available with Colgan, then I will politely decline the offer. Colgan is one of many options for me, one I just wanted further information on.

class in a week, why?

He is talking about Q400 class and he wont be able to get the routes off of Colgans website because they havent been published yet. Here is a very unnoficial list and some may be added deleted at anytime. As of the 4th of Feb all I know of for sure is PIT and BWI from EWR but then again I did not even look to see where else it will be going, i gathered that from a ten second expedia search. We have 1 plane now, another on the 17th, 4 in Feb, 2 every month after and the remaining 4 in June.
Norfolk, VA Greensboro, NC Raleigh-Durham, NC Chicago's Midway, IL Pittsburgh, PA Baltimore, MD Burlington, VT Myrtle Beach, SC Pitsburgh, PA Baltimore, MD (BWI) Ottawa, Canada Toronto, Canada Do you fly the dash already or is your username and position based on what you were hired for? |

Good luck guys, I would start getting accustomed to "Yeah update in 4hrs". YYZ is a great overnight, (I doubt Colgan will cough up the money to put you in the Metropolitan downtown), same as BWI, really nice downtown hotel, and BTV as well will be missed, but you guys can have the others, they all are notorious for long ground stops. I would rather have more fying here at Express and deal with groundstops, so I am just pointing out the negatives to make myself feel better :) |
I wish us saabs had a BTV overnight. That approach with all the stepdowns where if you screw up you hit the mountain is pretty sweet
