FedEx shipping discount?
 

I'm thinking of taking a ski trip sometime soon, but I'm planning on going strait from Colorado to my domicile (I live out of base) for a three day trip. I'm thinking of FedExing my skiis home so I don't have to fly home then to my domicile. Not to mention there's probably less of a chance of them being damaged this way.

My question is how do you go about getting this discount? Do you just show up to any FedEx location, drop off you're package and show them you're airline ID or do you need additional documentation to get the discount. Also, how much of a discount does Mesaba airlines get. I seem to recall 75%, but that seems too high. If that's the case, it seems like I could ship them for much less than $10!!

I believe it's pretty much 75% across the board. Show up at FedEx Kinko's and show 'em your ID. That's about all you need.

It may have changed but I never had any luck at a Kinko's - even after they were bought by FDX. I always had to go to an actual FDX facility - like the airport or the local place where the trucks start. I'm also thinking your skis will be more than $10. It will be cheap but not that cheap. A regular FDX envelope is $6.xx.

I shipped something in December at Kinko's. The clerk was kind of annoying and told me FDX was going to eliminate the discount starting in Jan. I just rolled my eyes and said 'whatever'. Haven't heard anything about it since. *shrug* Anyone else?

Let me know how this works out for you. The airline I get pass travel benefits on charges a steep $200 per surfboard, so I'm searching for cheaper alternatives.

The interline discount should be about 75%. The skis will be more than $10. The rates are based on weight and size. It also depends on how far it is shipped. You can also ship 2 day or ground to save money.

Just show up to a FedEx staffed location, and present your airline ID. You will have to put your employee # and date of hire on the air bill. Kinko's should work, but if you can find a FedEx shipping center, it may be easier.

After shipping something through a FedEx-Kinko's in August, the clerk told me that the 75% discount applies only to the air shipments. I tried using Economy Ground or something like that since it wasn't a time-sensitive issue, and they weren't able to pull up a discount for it. It ended up costing less to ship it via next-day air than 3rd day ground...go figure.

I had the same thing happen to me. Tried to ship 2 boxes via Ground in December and the guy told me that the discount for Ground was "much less" (wouldn't tell me what it was) than the discount for Express shipping. The way he explained it to me was like a 75% discount on a $60 shipping order or a "much smaller" discount on a $30 order. Cost-wise it was about the same to just do the ground but it was news to me. I haven't asked anyone in the company about it and I was tired of dealing with the guy at Kinkos. Another time about a year ago, I did ship via Kinkos the clerk seemed a little peeved that my discount was better than her employee discount...could it be that FedEx is changing that?

yeah, all the above is accurate. Every time I've gotten the 75% discount, I've had to go to an actual FedEx facility at the airport. A lot of times I've found that if its not a time sensitive package, its actually cheaper to just send it FedEx ground rather than airmail it with a 75% discount. But at least the option is there if you need it...

I tried to ship something just regular ground and the dude at the FedEk Kinkos (not the brightest paper in the printer) said it only works on next day or two day shipments. Who knows though.
