Colgan Training Contract

Does Colgan Air still have a training contract?

Dark Knight 01-23-2008 04:42 PM

yep, pretty sure anyway

AirWillie 01-23-2008 05:01 PM

If they have none then they'd have no pilots.

flyguyniner11 01-23-2008 05:14 PM

yeah they do its a one year contract worth 16k

usmc-sgt 01-23-2008 05:37 PM

to elaborate

one year contract worth 16 thousand effective your date of hire (first day of indoc) and is prorated so leave after 6 months owe 8 thousand, leave after 11 months owe $1333.33. You get the idea

Speaking of colgan training...do they have some agreement with Flightsaftey? I have heard that they will send you to HOU's flightsaftey for about a week to become more familiar with the SF3 and have a better knowledge before the interview and a better understating for training if you pass the interview. I guess its to help reduce the fail rate. Anyone heard of this?

It is the Colgan pilot development program and is specifically for low time candidates, not just a free sim ride for those who are nervous about the interview. Here is an excerpt from an email

"Because of the current pilot shortage in the regional airline industry Colgan Air has been challenged with keeping our recruiting and hiring standards high while faced with a pool of lower time candidates. In response to this challenge we have developed the Pilot Development Program. Candidates that do not meet our posted minimums would be eligible for this program, at the company's discretion. All candidates will go through our regular interview process, including a full motion simulator evaluation, to determine suitability.

The week-long program will be held at Flight Safety at Hobby in Houston and will include four days of ground school and three days of simulator observation and instruction. The curriculum for the ground school was developed based on the deficiencies that we have seen with new hires in our Saab first officer training over the last year. The primary focus will be an instrument refresher course in a multi-crew environment. The ground school will also include CRM, Situational Awareness, Colgan Air Procedures and Policies, and an overview of Systems and turbine engines. The simulator portion of the training will include a total of 12 hours of observation of our new hires in the SAAB sim and 6 hours of instruction in the King Air C90 simulator. An offer of employment with Colgan Air as a First Officer training candidate will be contingent upon a successful check ride by a check airman after completion of this program. Because this is a pre-hire program, candidates that do not successfully complete the program will not be faced with a failed training on their permanent record.

Colgan Air will subsidize the cost of all expenses associated with this program however candidates will be responsible for their hotel rooms, meals and personal expenses. They will be eligible for Colgan Air's reduced rate at the Spring Hill Suites.

If you know of anyone who would be a good candidate for this program, please feel free to email me their resume at [email protected]. As always, thank you so much for your support."

Kind of SAD, basically they are telling people that they are that desperate that they really don't care how much time you have..................

The training contract is about as worthless as their management. I have said it before, verified through my Employment Lawyer sis, that it is not worth the paper it is written on because it is not enforceable..........

Care to elaborate? Why is it not enforceable? A contract between two willing parties can certainly be enforceable unless they wrote it to make it difficult for themselves to enforce. What gives? Thanks.

They way it was explained to me was confusing, but essentially because of certain "life" circumstances, and the fact they would have to have gone back and sue everyone who broke the contract, it would be too time consuming and expensive, and the fact that they have done their fair share of illegal stuff that they would be held accountable in court for.............they just "let it go". I kept a record of the type of illegal crap they pulled with me and my sisters law firm called them and questioned them about it, they basically left me alone. It' is easy to deal with a shady operation like COLGAN, jut keep track of the b.s. stuff they do and use it against them..........

(Just like the time I had a friendly chat with a someone at Colgan I said "look I have no problem doing a 121 flight after 3 hrs of sleep in a Hanger in 3 degree MHT, let me just CALL the FEDs and make sure I am legal for it"--Funny how that conversation quickly turned around....................

Don't let anyone at any airline push you around, if you are tired or sick YOU CAN NOT BE REPRIMANDED FOR IT, IT IS ILLEGAL TO FLY SICK & TIRED
