I was looking at Piedmont and was reading some threads about them but never found out this answer. I am from MN so if I got hired I would have to move to the city I am flying reserve out of, but once I get a flight line then can I move back and commute or no?

Yes, that's life as a pilot; you can even commute to your reserve line but that TRULY SUX. A large majority of pilots and FA’s commute, I did it for awhile and don't ever want to do it again. I'll always try to live in base.

Usually on reserve you won't have much time off...usually two days in a row, or occasionally 3 days in a row. If you have a two leg commute its practically impossible to make it home with 2 days off. On your reserve days you have to be in base. I had a two leg commute when I initially began....what a pain that was. I moved in base and now it's great...45 minutes from apartment to gate, no worrying about standby lists, if I'm off two days I'm at home the whole time. Plenty of pilots commute, most of us have done it at some point, but I can guarantee your QOL will be better if you live in base, as long as you can afford it. Someplace like LGA...too expensive on first year pay. Best of luck.
