I am currently sitting reserve in SJU. I could probably hold a composite line in April. That would make it about a 2-3 month reserve. However, just put my bid in for MIA and got it, so I'll probably be on reserve for another 6 months

I just want to plug this here cause of so many SJU haters...

If you are single and want to have a good time then bid for a jet later...go SJU. The crew is great here. I'll probably have a hard time transitioning back to the states. And the women...wow...just wow. Awesome destination airports. Most people can only take it for a few months though, although all are glad they did it. I haven't run into anyone personally that had regrets.

 

Thanks for the reply and additional info. I am thinking about SJU because I was born in the Caribbean and would like to go back and fly. I’ll guess that you mostly fly to those small islands and get a hotel by the beach, right?

Set your mind at ease! If you are looking at going to Chicago and want the ERJ, it's pretty much a sure thing. Today I started class in Dallas and there were only 2 CRJ openings and neither were in ORD. All 9 or 10 people who bid ORD got the ERJ and that included me, the MOST JUNIOR GUY in the class. If you're very young its a gaurentee, if you're older, you may get the option. By birthdate, you are asked what equipment you would like based on availability. Some of the DFW new guys were not old enough within the class to be able to choose CRJ or Saab, therefore they got put on the Saab by default.

Remember, base is a guarantee. You can only be offered/awarded equipment that that base flies. Regarding your question about changing bases after being awarded the ERJ: You are not able to be processed for a bid transfer request until you are fully active in the JetNet system. That occurs on day 4-7 after beginning training. Doesn't matter whether you want to live in Chicago or Boston, bid the base you want, you will be given the ERJ at a minimum or will be given the option of the CRJ if no others have taken it before it comes your turn. You can always turn down the CRJ spot and take one of the many ERJ vacancies!

I will be applying for American eagle with in the next week or so. I live close to LGA and i would want that as my base. how hard is it to get LGA? any information on the interview or the hiring process would be helpful. thanks

The potential hitch is that the EMB training slots may be full when you show up for class (having chosen ORD or DFW) and thus CRJ and/or Saab may be the only equipment available at that particular point in time. If you want to absolutely, positively guarantee yourself the EMB then you need to hire into BOS or LGA. After you are in the system and assigned EMB training then you can put in for a transfer to any other EMB domicile. Is it very likely that you can choose ORD and expect the EMB? Yes, but it's not a certainty. FWIW.

 

With 99 ORD EMB FO's openings every month, I don't think he should have any problem getting the EMB.

 

You'd think that but I still got the CRJ when I started despite gross understaffing on the EMB at ORD. Id say you have a 95% chance of getting the EMB when you start here but if you are likely to be the youngest in your class (seniority within the same date of hire goes off of date of birth), you could be that 5% that gets the CRJ.

Thanks guys. I am just playing it safe. I just DO NOT want to sit reserve any longer than I have to. If I have to be in BOS for a couple months before being awarded ORD, thats fine. I guess BOS reserve is low also. I am currently sitting in the Baymont hotel, headed to the sim interview!
