i heard from a captain at eagle in boston that a lot of guys were going to be leaving this summer...how many pilots are based in kbos now?
|
around 116 captains and 115 FO's in Boston right now
|
Did this captain say as to why they will be leaving?

Contracts are handed out on the first or second day of class. All books you receive from AE are property of AE. So that means if you leave the company, you must return the contract, FM1, FM2, AOM, etc. Unless someone scanned all 650 or so pages and posted them online, you probably won't find it anywhere. Sorry

Yeah, its something else huh. If your in BOS I would plan on 30-60hrs a month. My record low for a month in BOS on rsv is 17hrs of flying. It seems reserves are flown to the breaking point in ORD and DFW. Wouldn't plan on that in BOS and LGA. Unless they send you to ORD. Seems like during transition time(last few days of the month and first few days of the next month) they have melt down and thats when capts end up sitting right seat. In between its pretty quite. |
Is anyone willing to shed some light into what reserve is like in Dallas? Ive heard on the jets you can be on reserve for about 12 months, the Saab is like 1-2 months.
How often do the ERJ and CRJ drivers get DH'd to other cities to pick up trips? SF3, ERJ and CRJ info would be awesome! |
A friend of mine was hired in November into the Saab in DFW. He now holds a composite line which is like one step below a hard line. 3 months. Probably 4 before he holds a hard line.
ERJ reserve is variable, like everything else. 7-12 months is my most current hearsay. (I'm at the flight academy, so I'd like to think the rumors here are top notch:D). CRJ reserve is another animal altogether! I don't even want to approach that. All I've heard of is guys getting Junior manned or DHed to Chicago out of BOS to pick up extra flying. I'm sure it occurs everywhere else though:confused:. Just not as often. Hope this helps... |

Sure, what I mean is, a) good luck getting into it if you're young. It's the most senior aircraft in the fleet, and b) I've heard so many different numbers regarding the reserve time all over that I really can't help you. Maybe someone else can provide accurate #'s if they are based somewhere with the CRJ.
In our class, 5 Saab DFW; [20 ERJ -- ORD(8), DFW(5), BOS/LGA(7)] I really can't remember if LGA flies the ERJ or not, my bad. and 2 CRJ DFW. There were no CRJ availabilities this time or last class in ORD. |
Reserve on the EMB in Dallas is well over a year. Since Dallas is so senior I’m sure it won't be going down for any time soon.
|
Do they hire guys who have less than 50 multi?
|
Not to my knowledge. All the ppl in my interview class and training class have at least 50. They will accept you with lower than "published" TT, tho. For those who haven't flown much recently (roughly <100hrs in 12 months) be prepared to go to an RJ transition course at company expense before starting AE training. See other thread for more info. on this
|
I thought they were offerring the transition course to people with less than published mins, which would include multi.

I guess every sim has its personalities. Some DFW, SJU, and ORD. 1 tried for MIA but didnt get it. I bidded BOS so I can get into the ERJ in ORD and not risk getting hi reserve on the CRJ
Can you please confirm for me that the 'bid bos transfer ord' tactic worked for you? I read all the pages and saw that a few people did this.. just want to make sure it still works and nothing has changed. I'll be applying very soon and would like the EMB at ORD as well.. Thanks. |

If I can speak for anyone wanting the jungle jet out of ORD, the BOS - ORD transfer will work b/c there are only ERJs based at Boston AND there are 99+ FO vacancies in ORD. If you asked for ORD in the interview and want the ERJ, there's a 99% chance you'll get it.
When is the "best" time to put in the transfer? Do I wait until completion of training? Do I wait until I am entered into the JetNet computer and place the change that way? Or do I speak with the instructor about it on the 1st day of class? Thanks! |

Has anyone here been called today? Still waiting to hear about the captains board decision.
If you were called in the past what time of day? |

Got the call. I am going to flight safety on March 3rd in VRB for the RJ oreintation course. I am looking forward to the RJ course for some extra sim time in the 145 but it is unpaid so thats a long time with no paycheck.
Start ground in DFW on the 31st of March. |
What are your times?

Atleast you'll have no problem writing a clearance down. Which equipment did you get awarded in DFW?
good luck |

I'm glad to hear there are still people who actually want to be based in ORD. Please keep coming, then I won't have to be shipped up there to do the flying.
|
I am going to BOS so EMB. Yeah I don't have a problem with ATC instructions copying or issuing clearances, EDCT's, anything ATC I have had to deal with.
The sim time was while I was working at Southwest in ground ops. I went to pilot training to check it out and ended up flying the -700 around LAX some ILS and visual approaches. The -800 was at ATOP (Airline training oreintation Program) at COA pilot training at Houston. It is a weekend of fun. First day is 10 hours of ground going over systems, normal and non normal procedures, start procedures and FTD for startup. Second day you wake up real early and fly a pre briefed profile. 2 ILS approahes, first VMC second IMC (300 and 2). V1 cuts, other random emergancies. I had an engine fire at 90kts, simple window overheat (reset switch to reset thermostat) and in the right seat I had a engine failure, complete hydro failure. Its 1 hour PF/PNF 1 hour observing. After the Sim I took the option to get the high altitude sign off so we did CBT a video and emergancy descent after rapid decompression in the FTD. I think it was a huge help. Not too much money. The ATOP if you bring a partner is only 450 each for the sim and ground and 125 more for the HA endorsment. |

I thought they were sending people that didn't meet the TT mins to the orientation course, not anybody that does meet the mins. Hmm not a bad idea I guess.. get familiar with the aircraft before the training itself won't hurt.
Thanks for the info about the sim time. Good luck! |
I think I know you ridejumpfly...interviewed on the 11th? You might know me better as "Crash".
I'll be in Vero Beach for the class on the 3rd. |
Pontius! "Crash" LOL. Awesome I will see you there. So you know if anyone else will be there from our class? How did your employer take the news?
Send me an email I have some inside info for VRB. Mine is [email protected] |

Do a *7/employee# for most of the newhires coming through the schoolhouse now. The avg time is about 400TT. This is the supply/demand dynamic of the industry. They all go through the same checkride as we did, so kudos to all those who make it online.

theres a lot of us in my class that "tried" to bring the average up. ;-)

Let me get this straight. You JUST got hired with AE, not even at training yet, and you already have a callsign of "Crash"? This does not bode well for you my friend...
Crash was a temporary nickname given to me for, shall we say, my initial inability to place the F100 on the ground in a horizontal manner. Thankfully landings are not graded...nor should they be! I was a bit more concerned flying the ILS than I was with what altitude I should flare at. 10 feet is apparently not adequate! Works for a 172, but not something that weighs 44 times a 172. |
