I just tried to apply with less than the published mins for multi time. I have the total time but I was short of the multi and the online system would not let me complete the application. It told me to update my profile once I had obtained 100 hours of multi. As far as total time though, they do use the word "preferred" next to the 1000 hours. My guess is that they will talk to you with less than 1000TT but not less than 100 Multi or 100 Inst.

If you are close, it won't hurt to start an online application on their website.

Heard from some during sim two days ago that management was currently (Tuesday) in talks regarding canceling upcoming classes due to the fact we are fat on pilots and no growth opportunities. Also heard that HR is stopping all interviews for the month of March. Not a good time to be on the bottom like I am

You know, that wouldn't really surprise me...but I also don't think it all adds up. I think at SkyWest, it is usually us Pilots that are a bit short-sighted, not management - and while we've been scratching our heads at the staffing for the last several months, they've sworn up and down we still need 600 Pilots for '08...

flyboyzz1 02-06-2008 07:02 PM

well I sure hope I heard wrong. From what they were saying they were inches away from some big news but it's all on the back burner. The sim guys were all freaking out that the classes are being cut and hiring is a fraction of what it has been.

Could this be a reference to the SWA regional flying we were rumored to get? Heard is was pretty much a done deal, but just before Christmas it seem to evaporate. Maybe any of the other rumors that are swirling around the SKW crew rooms and flight decks?

flyboyzz1 02-06-2008 08:02 PM

yeah it was for sure the southwest rumor.... i know people think it was only a rumor but from the way it sounds from the guys who attend the meetings in St. George that was days away from being a real thing. SWA pulled out at the last second because of fuel prices and the uncertainties the company has regarding future balance sheets. What the other big deals were/are....I have no clue.

thndr8 02-06-2008 08:52 PM

Reaffirm this. SKW might be cancelling future classes per the rumor. Not classes that would be starting within a few weeks??? Like perhaps the one that I am starting in a week and a half.

I have heard nothing of your class canceling or any other class for that matter. We may run an upgrade only class for one class but that will not affect your class.

flyboyzz1 02-07-2008 05:24 AM

no I think they were talking about classes later down the road

RJ Pilot 02-07-2008 05:29 AM

Sooner or later the music has to stop.

skystruck 02-07-2008 02:49 PM

There was a recent post about the Bro side really needing FO's. Can any of you current bro pilots chime in here and let us know if you still feel like you need new pilots? Also, what is attrition like in the company? How many CA's per month have been leaving for "greener pastures" with the majors? Just goes to show you that things can change rapidly especially when we are dealing only with speculation.

cfii2007 02-07-2008 03:30 PM

I wish they'd lower mins......down to 50 multi.

papacharlie 02-07-2008 05:09 PM

yeap that would be nice. But I dont see it happening soon.

We have min reserve coverage for the entire month of Feb = not enough pilots on the EMB120 in my opinion at least in my base. It has been like this since I have hit the line on June of 07. As for attrition.......I have not been keeping track lately but my seniority number keeps changing (Going up) on a weekly and almost daily bases. I do know of 4 capts in my base that are in a hiring pool at major airlines awaiting for their class dates and I am sure there are more out there as well.

Koolaidman 02-07-2008 07:52 PM

Attrition for the month from December to January bid packages showed me moving up 10 spots. I am 208X out of 28XX. When I started, we were losing on average of 20 to 25. It has slowed, but a few have still left. On Sunday, we will get a more accurate look at how much we moved up when bids come out. For being "staffed", we have a lot of red arrows in MKE. Red arrows means not enough reserves to cover a drop request. Who knows what is going on?

Jetjock65 02-07-2008 08:42 PM

Doesnt sound like a good time to apply then- deffinetly dont want to be a guy in one of the last few or worst of all last class hired-a friend of mine got hired with a company during a situation like that and he was jr. forever and a day- Where are all the new hires going, to the jets or the props?

ANPBird 02-09-2008 07:55 PM

Just looked at our lines in FAT for the Bro and it seems we are back to being short on the FO side again for March. PBS says 57 people in base bidding and their targeting 62 lines. I can here it now. SGU is shooting out red arrows towards SkedPlus+ for March........what a surprise!

Huh...I always thought that it was Cupid. :D

Seatownflyer 02-09-2008 08:44 PM

PDX is full of red arrows for this month. I also just heard that the march EMB new hire class was canceled. source said mgmt wouldn't say why. you know how it goes though, believe it when you see it.

oh, hmm.. march looks ok. 16 targeted lines, 19 fo's.

How confident are you that the EMB March class is canceled? I'm interviewing on Tuesday in SLC and would have liked to have been in that March class. I'm sure I'll find out on Tuesday what the scoop really is on this.

Ok here is the official scoop. On the Jet we have the current class and the one coming up. After that there will be no classes in April, May, or June. The Bro will be about th same. This is how it is for now. Staffing levels are back up where they want them and they don't want over staffing. That being said don't be surprised for something to come up and have the flood gates reopened for several months at a moments notice. If they keep interviewing and fill the pool I would not let this keep you from applying. As for right now we are in wait and see mode.

how do you know this?... Not doubting you. I thought they hired a ton of skyway guys?

BHopper88 02-10-2008 04:30 PM

I interviewed on the 5th and got the "conditional hired" and waiting to hear back on a class date. From what they said, there was a CRJ class on the 18th but didnt know what or when the next one was. Hope to hear back this week on a class date... Either way have only good things to say on what I have seen so far..

Just trust me I know. :D Let's just say I am in a position in the training department.

sweet! I was just in the last class...

Koolaidman 02-10-2008 05:25 PM

Wavit, I am still waiting for the other announcements you said were going to happen.

MKE is the most junior base and we are by no means over staffed. 68 lines, 71 pilots bidding? I guess we may have some guys coming here right after training, but that isn't even adequately staffed in my opinion. How is ORD

Koolaid, I am still waiting myself. Looks like they have gone the way of the Southwest deal. I know at one point we had 3 pretty solid growth plans that are on hold for now as our major partners figure things out. Next time I will not be so anxious to share those. I kind of put my foot in my mouth.

As for classes we are slowing down for a while. Almost all of the last class and from the way it looks all of this class should be headed to MKE. Historically this is how the company has operated. We slow things down when just staffed and open the flood gates all at once if new flying come along.

Timmay 02-10-2008 06:11 PM

Same with FAT EMB FO's...57 in base, 62 targeted lines. Bring on the open time!!

Care to share what the other 2 were?

Nope, like I said my foot is staying far away from my mouth for now. ;)

Koolaidman 02-10-2008 07:34 PM

Wavit, thanks for clearing things up! I had hope since we were supposed to continue to hire, but things are looking bleak with classes cancelling.

I still have some hope. It is not unSkywest like to not hire until right when a big announcement is to come out. IF one does I don't think it will be until late 3rd to 4th Q this year.

flyboyzz1 02-10-2008 07:48 PM

whats attrition right now?

Last I heard it had slowed to 10-15 a month. I think more people are staying put until things at the majors look more solid. Plus with Southwest not hiring that takes a bunch of people out. Most of our attrition was to Southwest.

Koolaidman 02-10-2008 09:33 PM

I moved up 19 spots this past month. I was surprised.

Newty 02-10-2008 09:45 PM

Hey wavit,
Think I have it figured out now who you are. Initials JP? So how is this slowdown going to affect me in the bro getting back to slc?

Is this just new hire classes or are the jet transition classes going away for awhile as well? I have my bid in for transition, wondering how its going to affect me.
