Pinnacle 900 FOs

It's probably a touchy subject since 9E/pncl is low-balling the arbitrator negotiations, saying they want to pay 900 FOs the same as 200 FOs, but I have a couple of friends just hired there, and I'm wondering where they send ATL 900 FOs for training? I've never heard of Pinnacle doing training anywhere other than MEM...but they said some new hires go on the 900.

I know XJ sends 900 new hires to DEN and Montreal for sims, just wondering what Pinnacle is doing? I was actually trying to figure out if they do crazy stuff like typing guys in the 200 sims to save money (since it's legal to do that, I think).

Also...do 900 FOs get Delta and NWA benefits? Or just Delta (for $50 )+ company NWA flights?

Spooled 02-10-2008 12:10 PM

YUL for sims. 900 FO's get Delta benefits only.

nicholasblonde 02-10-2008 01:26 PM

So they get Delta benefits (which are pretty substandard compared to the NWA benefits), and the same pay as a 200 FO??? That prob makes the 900 a junior aircraft.

Can Delta FOs bid for 200 Capt. slots, or are you stuck with the 900 if you're assigned the 900 in training???

Spooled 02-10-2008 02:09 PM

900 FO get the -200 rates until the arbitrator decides on rates. Should be by the end of this month. Pay is retro active.

If is my understanding that if you bid the 900 it is a two year seat lock. You cannot bid the -200 for two years. You cannot upgrade on to the 200 for two years. You could upgrade in the 900 if there is a vacancy.

And a great way to gain respect is to disrespect one of the only groups right now who is standing up to management. Many groups are coming up on amendable contracts and setting the precedent now that ALPA unions are sick and tired of being abused only helps the groups who are coming up on negotiations. Think "Big Picture" here...

See if you said "friends don't let friends fly 9E 900's" it might make more sense...

Bidding the 900 without proper pay rates is not cool in my book. However, the FOs who are being assigned the 900 straight out of initial are not to blame since they don't have a choice... The guys who chose to bid the 900 without a pay scale are a different matter...

nicholasblonde 02-10-2008 06:00 PM

I don't think I asked any questions about whether someone should work there or not...but since the subject has been raised--I think 9E will eventually get a decent contract, because they're unified and they have a union. It will probably get nastier before it gets better, but truthfully, in our short-sighted minds, 9E just happens to be the company that's in a fight right now...if we were on here when Mesaba was bankrupt and fighting for a contract, you'd be saying "friends don't let friends fly for Mesaba...or ASA...or whatever" I personally think some of the regionals that are en vogue today (RAH, etc.) will eventually have their fair share of disputes, because every management everywhere drags out their payscale as long as they can. Sure, 9E might have one of the most acrid management-labor relationships around, but at least the pilots are together.

Completely agreed...there is a reason the rollout was welcomed with picketing. Coupled with a tough commute (ATL) and probably longer upgrade and DAL benefits instead of NWA benefits, I would think no one bids it anyways, and that it's an assigned a/c.

ATL based employees and the Delta dedicated corporate employees will continue to be eligible for travel privileges with the NWA travel program. Employees that are not based in Atlanta or not dedicated to the Delta operation will not be eligible for the enhanced Delta travel privileges. Employees must spend a substantive amount of time supporting the Delta operation to be eligible for the enhanced Delta pass privileges. Regardless of which employee group you are in, the listing and ticketing process for traveling on Delta or Delta Connection flights (DCI) will be changing. Below is a chart that details the changes being implemented and the differences between the two groups. Explanations of the items in the chart are also described below.

Looks like 900 guys get both.

cessna126 02-10-2008 11:54 PM

What kind of privaleges do the -200 people get on Delta?

GDLBEN33 02-11-2008 06:57 AM

All we get on the -200 side is ZED fares with Delta. Kind of sucks that the guys flying the -900 get both and we only get the NWA benefits.

PinnacleFO 02-11-2008 07:01 AM

thats alright, we will all have delta benifits soon!

nicholasblonde 02-11-2008 09:23 AM

If you're talking about a merger...I'd hold my tongue on that for now. First of all b/c it might not happen, second of all because you might not want that to happen, depending on how it is structured. If, for example, they were to scale back DTW/MEM flying (like the way AA scaled back STL feed after the TWA merger) things might get a little crazy. I'm not wishing for that merger to happen anytime soon.

this wont happen, and there are several reasons why. without going into them to much atlanta cant handle any more flying than it already has, infact it could stand to lose a few flights and get ontime and completion performance up to par. instead of having 3 flights a day to tys from mem and 6 flights a day from atlanta to tys i see them shifting passengers around in a more economic way that way they don't have to do so many runs to the same place, crowding up their system. that is how a merger will play out. take the stresses off the major hubs that cant take anymore and spread it out, and maybe even pull back a bit.

nicholasblonde 02-11-2008 04:00 PM

So what would a post-merger 9E look like (if all the obstacles to a merger were overcome)?

that my friend is the million dollar question. We do seem to have several things going our way but who knows how it will all really pan out a couple of years from now. what is going for us is that we have 10 year contracts with both delta and northwest that both last till 2017. so that is a big bonus to us. they only way they can break those contracts is either try to renegotiate them with us or go back into bankruptcy and get them thrown out. even skywest ceo pointed out in a recent statement he gave that the airlines just cant throw their contracts out the window to downsize or for any other reason. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_8226902?source=rss So the big question will be how many different regionals does delta really want to use and when does everyone elses asa's expire. ours goes to 2017 like i said so it is fresh. what about shuttle america, freedom, skywest, asa, comair, etc, etc. even with a fresh contract it is only good for 17 900's with the OPTION for more,, whether or not they want to use those options remains to be seen.

All contracts can be broken, do not feel to safe.

higney85 02-12-2008 08:31 AM

I was thinking that since I just now got over my SJS syndrome I should get some Heavy time in the -900 and since they are going to mexico from ATL I could get my international checkoff. I have been to canada countless times but they speak english pretty well. Plus in mexico I could work on my spanish to get along with people better in the USA!

*if you do not sense the sarcasm shame on you!*

nicholasblonde 02-12-2008 09:10 AM

Yeah...and those chicks in GRB and NW Arkansas will go home with you from Applebee's because you'll be tan and telling them how just just flew that shiny jet to Mexico...they'll say "is that, like, uh, the concorde? It's really long!" And the 900 FO will say "uhhh...yeah, kind of like that...will you buy my drinks? I make less than the janitor here.

Ha ha sarcasm.
