Just awarded Apr 7th class for Upgrade

Just wanted everyone to know that I just accepted an April 7th EMB upgrade class. I’m excited and I feel I’m more than ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

My commute will suck seeing I live in ATL but my wife is 110% behind me and without her support there’s no way I would have been as successful as I am, in both my previous and current jobs.

My reasoning behind accepting the EMB award over the CRJ:

1. I can hope a pretty nice commutable line in SLC & FAT.
2. I can build around 90+ hrs of TPIC every month compared to 30 or so on the RJ.
3. EMB CA line holder pay is comparable to CRJ reserve CA pay.
4. I have a few friends who live in SLC & FAT so no need to drop $175/month on a crash pad.
5. Get an average of 14-15 days off compared to 10-11.
6. With the way things are going (hiring & RJ upgrade freezes) I won’t get awarded RJ CA until Sept or Oct. I’m also expecting more senior guys to take the first 2 or 3 class after the freeze where as they are still going to run the EMB upgrade classes through May and I can get either the Apr or May class. What do they say, “A bird in the hand’s worth two in the bush!”

Congrats, JetJock. Sound like a great decision, although as a commuter I already feel your pain. I couldn't do it without a very supportive wife either.

I'm curious to hear how the transition from the CRJ to the EMB is for you. I'm planning on doing the same thing when I have the seniority for it. Good luck!

Fantastic! Congrats man...let us know how it goes - we're all rootin' for ya!

Shouldn't be that hard seeing I have over 600 hours in the EMB already.

Yes the commute is going to really SUCK! But it's a means to an end and that's what we're keeping in mind.

Good idea to take the opportunity to get turbine PIC when its offered to you...lots of people around Skyway that put in 4-5 years as a 328 FO have to be kicking themselves watching guys that have been on property for half that time going to AirTran and Spirit

Some just can't see past the 8-Leg days! They want to get paid to do nothing ;)

You'd be proud of me. I turned off the autopilot through 20 on the way down yesterday.

Of course, I'm sure I'll be hearing from the FAA pretty soon.

I can do 8 legs a day, no problem! It's the 5:30 you get paid for those 8 legs when you're working the LAX system as well as the 36 hr layovers in IYK that I have a problem with.

True...I forgot about that...but you can avoid LAX, even with your seniority I am sure!
