Hello
I know there is talk about a new base for PSA. Does anybody think they know where the new base would be. My bet is PHL.

AlaskaOps 02-27-2008 06:40 PM

That's because you are not on the inside Mr. Trackpilot. How many weeks till you start IOE/reserve?

av8tr_2007 02-28-2008 06:03 AM

I heard it might be in N. Carolina. Rumors rumors...

Besides, who needs a new base when there is the awesome Dayton?

As of today, there are 10 FO openings in CLT. I have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed.

Hey, PM are you really on here at 3am?

ksatflyer 02-28-2008 09:08 AM

PMeyer 02-28-2008 10:41 AM

They're reducing flights from PHL.

AlaskaOps thanks for letting me know that PHL is not one of their bases but I think I should know I have been based at two of the three. But next time read the question and read it correctly I was not saying PHL is a base. I was asking a question if anyone had heard any rumors. Now if you need help reading visit.

They are reducing PHL flying. That is what I was told by a buddy of mine. Most pilots I have been told dont think onr of the new bases will be PHL.

They have taken a break on interviews for a couple of weeks. I spoke with Lisa who would be the one to send you an e-mail to invite you to the interview and she said it might be the 10th before they start contacting people to come to the interview. But there will be one again march 25th. If you know Will pretty good have him make some calls. Will is a real good guy. And sorry AlaskaOps had a bad day.

Hey RickB...I wouldn't worry too much. The training dept. is currently working hard to get 30 captain upgrades through training and CA IOE, in addition to training monthly new hire classes and 700 differences classes (about 15 per class for differences). All this training places a high demand on the resources of the check airmen and sim time, so a temporary slow down in hiring makes sense for the time being. I'm sure as soon as the CA upgrades and current new hires get through the sims and IOE, hiring will resume. I don't fly a week without hearing of another CA leaving for a major/legacy/LCC or corporate gig...we need pilots and hiring is the only way to get them :) Sit tight and I'm sure you'll hear from someone soon.

bradeku1008 02-29-2008 06:09 PM

Hey guys, I got hired on at PSA and don't go to school untill May. I have the CRJ packet that Lisa sent me memorized but was wondering if there is anytihng else I should study that might help. Thanks

New Base

In a weekly meeting with the CEO he said that the company (PSA) was looking into new bases. CAK wouldn't make any difference for the company. CAE the same. PHL...not going to happen. PIT...Ya sure. MCO...uhhh no. He also went on to say that it was the unions fault we aren't flying the 900's. I believe it is managements greed that ended that deal. We can't even staff the 200's we have, so there is a 0% chance of getting the 900's any time soon. Good news is that there is a lot of movement. Lots of upgrades and lots of PSA Captains moving on to bigger and better things. Hotels are getting better. life is improving because of the current MEC. Before you come to PSA just make sure you can walk and chew gum at the same time. The biggest complaint i hear from Captains is that the new F/O's seem to know everything. A lot of us have a background of flight instructing, 135 and other airlines jobs before coming here. Many with over 10,000hrs. You can learn a lot from them. Come with an open mind and come prepared to learn every day you are on the line. If you don't you might be finding yourself fighting for your job.

Info looks pretty good on systems from that website..i just glanced over it but not bad. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it we (psa) have one of the best training departments in the industry as far as I know. Out of a class of 19 we lost one, only due to him resigning for personal reasons. Our systems is computer based training augmented by instructors. After basic indoc it's two students to one instructor, if you try you'll do fine. As far as other information, see if you can get someone to send you the updated memory items, unless the ones have changed in the training packet you memorize those, get to training and they change them slightly. If your antiskid memory item doesn't say "pm will select antiskid to off" then you have the old ones...

You are prepared extremely well for the oral, and checkride. Do the studying you agreed to do, and know the material given to you, and you will be fine. It's up to you to succeed, PSA gives you everything else, and then some.

The rumor I heard about the 900's was that management was not wanting to pay any more to fly the 900's and the union is not going along with that. And I don't think anybody wants to get paid to fly a 70 seater when flying a larger plan. But that is just a rumor so who knows.

And I agree with eveybody on the training department. They know what they are doing. If you go in there with a good attitude and get along with everyone and leave the FA's alone you will do fine and they will bend over backwards to help you. And there have been cases where a good attitude will get you a second chance, it happen to someone in my class. Just go in there and do what you are suppose to and you will do fine.

How long did it take you to hear back after the interview? Phone or email? I have a buddy waiting/stressing...

bradeku1008 03-01-2008 01:21 PM

I had an interview on a Wednesday and got a phone call from them on Monday. Iv heard some say that it took them longer to get a phone call though.

Juneyah83 03-01-2008 04:20 PM

Are they going to be sending you guys up to Montreal in may for your class?

usuav8r 03-02-2008 06:06 AM

I heard they weren't sending anybody else to Montreal and that they were changing it to Denver...

They haven't told me yet. But like the above post said it looks like they are starting to going to Denver. Any word on how the SIC checkride is?

BankAngle09 03-02-2008 06:45 AM

4 approaches (2 non-precision, 2 precision (2 handflown)) 2 single-engine as well, a V1-cut, a flapless approach and landing, go-around, balked landing, manuevering stall (only, if done well), steep turns... i forget if there was anything else... if anyone has anything to add please do.... they prepare you well, i did mine in CLT with in house instructors and the FAA for the checkride.

Goodluck

Lisa the pilot recruiter said it would be March 10th before they invite anyone to an interview. Unless they change their mind it should be around then. Just make sure you pay attention to your e-mail.
Good luck
