Default Upgrading at Mesaba?

If you walk in the door with 5,000 hrs TT, and over 2,000 turbine PIC, how long until you can upgrade at Mesaba?

Just out of curiousity, for those at other carriers.. how long would it take to upgrade at your company with those times?

Asking for my buddy, so thanks in advance for any and all inputs/advice....

Well since they are no longer hiring street captains, upgrade will take just as long for your buddy as it would for a guy hired with 1/4 of his times. It has nothing to do with logged hours, and everything to due with seniority. I'm not sure if you knew that but the way you worded the question lead me to believe that maybe you thought that he could upgrade quicker because of his higher times. Why not apply at a major?

Try 1/20th of his time, or 5%!!

Yeah...and up untill a few months ago he would have been right.

It'll be interesting to see how junior the upgrades will go when movement on the Saab picks back up. It could go all the way to the bottom again (once again allowing anyone that is qualified to upgrade). Then again there could be enough FOs that have reached 1500 hours or turned 23 now that it won't happen.

Not sure where APC got their info from, but the Saab captain position is still posted. I've seen it posted internally as well down in the flight ops office in the airport recently. Go ahead and give HR a call and ask. Be proactive. You never know. Just food for thought. Maby someone knows something I don't

Upgrades have slowed just a bit lately, last award showed the Jr. CA (Saab) has six months with the company. I would expect about the same for your friend.

Comair - 6 to 7 years at the current rate of "growth" and attrition. And by that I mean an average of 30 pilots leaving a month and Delta reducing their flying at the same rate.

The big game for a Comair new hire is "can I get to the top of the seniority list before the bottom does?"

I'd recommend Street Captain at XJ or try the majors with your buddy's times.

Thanks everyone. I understand the senority system I know some companies have FOs that are senior, but don't have the hours to upgrade, so they take newer guys in the seat..
