Foreign pilot TSA requirements
Hello there,
I have recently been hired by a regional, and since I am not US citizen apparently I have to go through the TSA clearance/background check. Does anybody know what exactly I have to do? I have already done the TSA thing during my flight training, so they have my fingerprint. Thank you |
RedBaron,
The process is fairly easy. Your employer should provide you with basic information regarding your upcoming training:aircraft type and employer training reference number. Once you have these information, go to https://www.flightschoolcandidates.gov and follow the steps. Very basic information are needed. It is a two step process, the TSA will then check with your new employer (training provider) and will get back to you via email. If you have not done it previously, you will have to go to a nearby TSA office for fingerprinting. Once all of this is done, you should receive your authorization to start training within 4 to 7 days. The process is really simple and should be completed in no more than 10 days. Just make sure that all the information you provide to the TSA are accurate to avoid any delay. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck and welcome aboard. Skull |
You will have to re-apply to TSA for the new training event. Your company have to give you the training ID code and some other info. once you submit those TSA will send you an e-mail saying that your request has been approved and will give you guide you to a web site for finger prints. Now since its 121 company and it's initial training/type you will have to re do the finger prints only once. I think it's about 70 USD. Once your fingerprints clear you can start flight training (simulators). You DON'T have to have clearence for groundschool. Also when you go for recurrent training company will get you the clearance, BUT if you go for upgrade you have to re apply for upgrade training but not fingerprints assuming fingerprints were done with 15 months.
My friend make sure you get all the info from your company in order to request training before the class starts. Good luck and you can pm me if you have any questions. |
Hey guys
thank you very much for the info. So you are saying that since is part 121 I DO HAVE to retake the fingerprints even if they have already my fingerprints filed? |
RedBaron,
I submitted my fingerprints in April 05 for my Commercial Multi add-on and did not have to submit them again 4 months ago for my initial 121 training. Skull |

I would like to make a correction. fingerprinting is valid for 5 years not for 15 months. My mistake

Is that because they'll lose the records or they think your fingerprint changes?
