So, How Does American Eagle Compare To Mesa Or Pincl??
Haven't Took Flight Training Yet, Just Trying To Make The "wise" Choice When The Time Comes.

Everything could change by the time you make the move to the regionals.

As of now most people seem to pick AE over Pinnacle

I have read alot on here, and I don't work at Pinnacle, but am looking to work there. So far nobody has painted a rosy picture at all. But I do live in the DTW area, I don't have a family, and I have the required hours plus some to upgrade hopefully pretty quickly. Also from an FO I'm acquainted with that works there, I was told when your on reserve your only on the leash for 12 hours a day, you have scheduled days off, and DTW is their most junior so I could easily hold DTW. Also they're flying A/C built within the last decade, it's 121 time, and like I said one of the main attractions is upgrading quickly and getting 121 PIC. So those are the positives as far as I can see it.

Now the negatives, read from here, the management is a bumbling group of idiots that have no respect for their employee's, no contract, poor scheduling, poor training, poor morale.

So far from what I can see, for my personal situation the positives seem to out weigh the negatives. I'm not some kid with 1,000hrs looking to get my first flying job, I've been a captain for a couple years now flying both piston twins single pilot and 2 crew turbo props flying 135 freight. I'm looking at everybody that I work with and no one is moving on, even the jet captains. I don't know if it's the freight dog stigma or what, but they're just not finding good jobs. So I'm looking at taking this big step back wards to hopefully make myself more marketable. Plush who knows if I stick it out at Pinnacle for a couple years, they may finally get a decent contract in that time and conditions might improve.

Yeah...I'd say come on in. It does work for some people. It has worked for me even though there are hard times. I'm trying to get out now and it is more difficult than sending out some resumes and waiting on a call...still need several hundred more for my 1000 pic though, so still no hurry I guess. Come on over...with your experience, they would definately love you at interview time and I think you stand a great shot at getting in. Good luck with whatever you decide

Do your job and go home... Lateral moves suck take it from someone who has done 3 times...

I know you're bitter and all but, don't have anything against XJT which has one of the better contracts in the RJ business just to rationalize that 'its just a job' because to most of us we want and are pushing to make it more of a job and to restore our profession...

Is it a bad thing that XJT pays their FOs nearly $10k more second year than Pinnacle? There's no sense in wishing against that.

Stop settling for less.

"It's a regional, what do you expect?" It's more like

"It's an airline, I am expect to be treated better than dirt."

Please don't rationalize the erosion of work rules and pay rates.

Erosion is displacement of solids, sediment, soil and other particles) usually by the agents of currents such as, wind, water, or ice by downward or down-slope movement in response to gravity or by living organisms (in the case of bioerosion). There are two different types of erosion "mechanical erosion" and "chemical erosion"

I know a buddy who was killed when he was buried alive due to an erosion of work rules. They just kept falling on him, I miss him.

Find out who they are and make friends with them and maybe they'll do you a favor and use PBS to get on trips with you.

Captains can't bid to fly with or avoid F/O's. That option is only available for F/O's. This is because PBS builds the Captain lines first.

At least now I won't have to call in sick because they have put this "Wellness Program" in place. In fact, I'll even be rewarded for not ever getting sick! What a deal!!!
Seriously, do other airlines have programs that "reward" their pilots for not calling in sick?

A college buddy worked the ramp at Airtran a few years ago and they had a program where they received a bonus for attendance. If I remember correctly, they had $1 put into a bank for every shift that he was on time for and if there were no sick calls in a year, they would double or triple it at payout. He said it was company wide, but I am not sure if it applied to pilots.

Either UPS or FedEx has (or had) a incentive that is paid out in December and it is somehow related to the sick bank.

The chance to win a 42" flat screen TV is nice, but this is just another example of trying to get your employees to work sick, and then make their co workers sick. Management should try to staff the airline properly and allow us to behave like adults and use our sick time as we see fit, without fear of disciplinary action. But wait, that would require a fair contract to attract and keep more people. Some nice prizes would be much cheaper than a fair contract for our pilots.

I believe CAL has/had a wellness reward program that gave away SUV's.

Maybe if the company made it possible to bid for days off that you need i.e "golden days" you wouldn't have pilots that need to call in sick just so they can attend their own wedding, or go to a dentist appointment (or any other appointment that may need to be made months in advance)

Or in lieu of golden days off, you could just tweak the PBS so that if you hold enough seniority to do things like attend weddings and schedule doctors appointments, then you can bid for them and be someone confident that it is possible to hold.

This of course doesn't even touch on the problem of legitimate sick calls. Which are terrible at 9E for a variety of very real reasons. You don't eat or sleep at pinnacle. Many people will get a cold after a week or two of highspeeds/standups, because three hours of shuts you're immune system down. I have heard that the number of people using sick calls, FMLA, and long term medical leave at Pinnacle is huge. You would think that management would be concerned with finding out why, but you would be wrong.
