ZED Pass
 

Hey guys.

I got hired this month, March so I am new to all this.

I was wondering, how would I go about purchasing a ZED Pass on an international airline? What would I need, and what would I need to do? Seems we have the ZED agreements with plenty of airlines, including the one I would be using. But I'm not sure how I go about acquiring a ZED pass.

Alot of carriers who fly international routes require you to be with your airline 3 to 6 months before you get benefits.

I got hired on by a U.S Airways Express carrier. (PDT)

The airline I was thinking of taking is a Star Alliance member, as is U.S Airways. Does this make a difference? On the ZED website we have there is a small list of airlines that I can check the schedules on and list on, and all those airlines are Star Alliance airlines. Then there is another list of participating ZED Airlines, and its a long long list of all sorts of different airlines.

Is there any difference?

I dont think international is any different. Last week, I went right to an Airways ticket counter and told the lady I wanted to buy a ZED fare for my "domestic partner" (as my girlfriend is known to them) from ABC to XYZ. They work their magic on the computer, you pay, and they print you the ZED. Then you take it to the airline's gate your using to travel from ABC to XYZ and present it (after you listed on them). They'll take care of the rest. I don't know the req's for how long you have to be with your company.

Guardawg, a ZED pass is basically a discount airline pass for airlines employees. Depending on the mileage you are traveling, you will get a discount price for that trip in the area of around I guess 90-95% (someone correct me if I am wrong) either way it is cheap. But you are standby, so paying passengers always go before you, and before the flight leaves, if there is still an empty seat, you get it. :)

ZED= Zonal Employee Discount and is a discount based on the number of zone miles you wish to travel and the lowest full Y fare at the time. The zones might not be right but you will get the idea. 0-499= zone 1 500-999= zone 2 1000-1499= zone 3 and so on.... the price is based on which zone you travel in.

The amount you pay, like I said before is based on the number of miles you fly and the lowest FULL Y fare at the time of puchase. Most carriers do have ZED fares, but some dont like Delta Airlines, but Comair might. Its all based on the Carrier not who they operate or fly for. You need to look up each carrier seperate for each segment you want to fly. I know for AA and MQ its a simple in RES just type N*TVLUA or N*TVLDL or N*TVLOH....you get it now N*TVL__ the airline code. Sorry its the only airline I have worked for, Im sure they is a way to look this stuff up with every carrier you will just have to find out how, but if you cant just stop by AA/MQ and ask if they have ZED's....you know the format now:D

ZED stands for Z-onal E-mpolyee D-iscount. You buy the ZED pass, the fare you pay is based on mileage "zones".

Below is an example ONLY of ZED fares;

1 1 - 450 $25
2 451 - 750 $29
3 751 - 1600 $36
4 1601 - 3200 $51
5 3201 - 4080 $58
6 4081 - 5000 $66
7 5001 - 6100 $72
8 6101 - 7100 $86
9 7101 - 9999 $97

Any travel in a certain zone cost a fixed amount. So, from 1 mile to 450 miles will cost you 25$ one way. I believe that they are subject to a service charge in some cases, but could be wrong.

I got a ZED fare from LAX to AKL a year and a half ago, the total cost was $215 round trip. I'm sure they have gone up since then.

So do they look at how long you have worked at your airline?

What if you list and they issue you the ticket? I assume this means everything is OK and you can go if there is a seat available? :confused:

Also, if I list with an airline, and the flight I listed for is out of JFK. Do I have to pay and pickup the ticket at the counter in JFK? Or can I go to a nearby airport with US Airways ticket counters and pick it up from there? Do I get the return ticket as well? Or is that issued later?
