You're doing a great job representing your alma mater. :rolleyes:If I were an ATP rep, I'd pay you to shut your man-pleaser.

For some reason man these guys have something against me and whatever I say. I think It was a good talking point and entertaining before some people let their ego get in the way and felt the need to show "I know more than you," not that I have a problem with that It's just the whole attitude of "You suck you shouldn't be flying in the airlines," as if they know and have seen everything. Everyday I get in that Airplane I attempt to learn something new, I can admit when I don't know something!

There's a big difference in asking what strange things ATC has cleared people for or seeing if a long clearance is normal, and asking what to do with a clearance you obviously accepted. Getting to the airlines (regardless of where you came from) should mean that you have the ability to interact with ATC to get your mission accomplished, i.e. arriving safely. Yeah, there's a learning curve involved. Remember this though, you can be the best stick and rudder pilot there is, but if you sound like you've never spoken to ATC before, you'll probably get treated like a student pilot. Oddly enough, the same phenomenon happens on Internet forums too.

Turn Base:

Thank you for a reply that shows a voice of reason. Excellent read.

Technique:

I fly an airplane that is approved to do 300-350 knots below 10,000 ft. We fly downwind at 250-300, base at 230-250, and final at 170 or better. Touchdown (by a student) is rarely slower than 150.

When ATC asks "Poisn 81, slow to 200 for traffic sequence," I don't just tell him "I can't," I tell him "I can't do 200 but I can give you 230."

Point is, give him a solution he can approve, instead of making him guess. My overall experience with controllers is that most are very good, but I can't expect them to be an expert in every airplane's flying characteristics, nor your company's Ops Manual.

Usually, when I do this, they say "Uh...yeah!! That'll work!!"

Every Airplane I've ever been so far;) has arrived safely and Mission was Accomplished. I knew what I accepted and did them. I'm pretty sure you know that there's 2 people in the airplane. 1 Works the radios the other flies the airplane, to show how naive people are, surely before responding I ask the Guy flying what he wants to do. If I was flying and was asked for something that I wasn't aware of I just ask my CPTN, we talk about it and...... GUESS what Guys?? I learned something!!!! WOW Imagine that somebody learns something while flying an in the airlines.

Not nearly as bad what was mentioned above. But I was a lower timer going into MHT at night getting established on an extended final. To accommodate arriving Southwest ATC starts telling me turn right x amount of degrees. So I'm flying in this tiny Tomahawk trying to read the the HDG and count x ammount of degrees. I finally just asked "gimme a heading to roll out on".
