Either way you're on an EMB145. It's a 50/50 shot whether or not your DFW based crew will continue on to ORD or take another flight back. Either way just red tag your bag, deplane and look at it then.

Thanks for all of the help! I've decided just to travel in uniform and do the bag drag through security just to avoid any potential problems with bag transfers. Having worked for pax airlines before and seeing how they can screw up the easiest of things (just like UPS), valet bag check works for me! :D
