Before you go ranting on about the current administration and such just realize that before this war (or these two wars if you like to think of it that way) the last Democratic administration used the military in operations more than anyone in the last 30 years or so; and put the military in situations either where we shouldn't have been or in situations without proper support.
Just because the the leadership *might* change (and by this I mean the party) this coming election - it does not mean that the military still won't be engaged somewhere, doing something, and sons and daughters will be lost to conflict. It is what we do. USMCFLYR |

All I can say is "wow". That attitude burns me up. I see absolutely nothing wrong with fit29's attitude. I think a lot of you are misreading what he is trying to say. Give the guy a break, he is just giving an honest view of his world. And no where did he ever say he was unappreciative. We don't live in a black and white world and thanks, in part, to our military and framers of our great country, I am proud to live in the gray. People, including a lot of you guys, muddle the difference between anti-war and anti-military. |

I think calling him out or saying he is a socialist is a bit of an overstep, A lot of people in the US (70% according to the last poll) are extremely frustrated with the war and sometimes we (I include myself in this group) vent this frustration on the troops instead of on who really is to blame (topic for another discussion in another place). I try to avoid even talking about the subject, so I would understand why the captain would not like to do it.
I understand that the troops are not to blame for the actions of their superiors, but feeling angry at them is a mistake I have made a few times out of frustration for the situation, and for that I truly am sorry.

I'm really surprised that this thread hasn't been closed!

As one who served in peacetime, I hold my highest praise for those who have gone in harms way. Thank you. |

Hold on I am not some flower waving liberal ultra pacifist that will be against all military interventions, but I do not agree with Iraq, Afghanistan I support 120%, and I will have no problem with any future administration using force when it is the last resort to defend our freedom or when it might be necesary for the greater human good (a la Kosovo, etc). I understand that service men will likely die in these conflicts, but I feel that Iraq is a waste, and it is sad when 18-22 year old lives are wasted like this, I have friends that have gone to Iraq and I would hate to see them die. This is why I fight for an end to this, if this is unpatriotic then maybe patriotism is overrated.

I guess you missed that little gem. Second response I think.
He said he mistakenly vented his frustration, as have other Americans. He is making a statement. He is making an observation. And he also said it was WRONG. He never said he doesn't support the troops. "Support the Troops" is generic phrase that can be expressed in many ways. |

I have no problem with those who choose not to serve. I would, however, suggest those folks do a turn in the Peace Corps or spend a few years volunteering in a soup kitchen. Do SOMETHING to give back to your country and comrades. |
