Since you have a four year degree you can always find a job at lower lever and gradually climb "up", plus you can always get Master's degree in something else. There is lot's of programs out there that can take college graduate and train him/her for a different occupation. My best friend,has an aviation degree, quit his pilot job and became medical sales rep. making 65k the first year. He went through a 6 week training program and now he makes triple the FO pay with weekend and all the holidays off. There is a lot of possibilities out there. Even an aviation degree still makes you an "educated" candidate for plenty of jobs if are willing to put a little more into it.

Thats my point, if I remember correctly a 12yr DC-9 CA prior to 9/11 made well over $180.00/hr on a DC-9, 10 years later 777 CAL guys barely make that, take into account the size difference of the airplane + inflation, it is a joke...........

The funny thing is that for a long time SkyHigh has been saying this and got nothing but a hard time for saying it. It takes courage to walk away from a career that costs so much to obtain, yet pays little in return. We, the pilots who continue to trod along waiting for the industry to recover to days of past are the crazy ones!

Saab, you could make 65K selling medical supplies. Meritflyer quit Xjet to go back into that line of work. He's making bank now. Just do it....

Things worked out for me and I wasn't even trying that hard. No one knows the long term future. Even Skyhigh. My Aloha buddy just joined this site. He's looking at going to Japan, 13.5K a month, home 10 days a month, they buy tickets to and from. Maybe that's the near term future. If that doesn't work for you, then fine, but I think putting every pilot in a box and saying "the job isn't worth it" is going a bit far. It's "worth it" to some people.

Well, I won't quit becuase I know one day I would come back on this site and remember a lot o the screen names and I am sure they/we will all be in a much better position, the regret I would feel when I would come on here and see that ToiletDuck is the Chief Pilot over at CAL, and Skyhigh is a 73 Captain for Alaska..............


Its one of those things that I know if I were to give it up I would NEVER forgive myself, I would look back my whole life and hate myself for giving up............thats the truth, like I said I am tired of the BS but the friends I have made so far and the experiences I have had have been worth the heartache.

Don't worry I hate my job too. The only thing I like is comming home. The part I hate the most is that i feel like I have to do it, what else is out here? I recently applied for another job, part time but they said the only thing they had was
8-5 M,T,W 12-9 T,F, and every other weekend after hearing that I hung up on the guy and went to do my revision 7 thinking i guuess I'm in it for the long haul.
