8-5 M,T,W 12-9 T,F, and every other weekend after hearing that I hung up on the guy and went to do my revision 7 thinking i guuess I'm in it for the long haul.

I know bro. I am going to continue to build my car and become a race car driver :) Seriously All I want to do is tool around with my car, create a racing team. The best part about my day is putting the top down in the F lot and starting my drive home............

I'm sick and tired of hearing you griping SOBs **** and moan about how much you hate this job.
Is airline flying my "dream job"? Heck no! Do I still enjoy it? Yes, I do. I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it. If you don't enjoy your job, QUIT. It's that simple. Do the rest of us a favor and get out.

Really? No way! Next, you'll tell me you're tired of people rear-ending you, I suppose.
We're ALL tired of the cowdung and low pay associated with our job. I don't think I've met a single pilot who's said, "You know, I really enjoy 15-hour duty days with three hours of credit at twenty bucks an hour."
If the pros of this job outweigh the cons for you, go to work and quit bellyaching.
If the cons outweigh the pros, find another job and quit bellyaching.

XJT. It's entirely possible I've flown with guys without one, but not to my knowledge. Literally, every single pilot I've flown with and actually discussed our background, had at least a 2 year degree, with most having a 4 year or higher. But, there are some who I have no idea what their background is, so it is possible. Of course regionals don't require it, but unless you want to be a lifer at a regional it makes sense to have one, not to mention it gives you options if you medical out or whatever.

It's good if you can make it in the industry, but by then you'll probably be a grumpy and lonely old man that has a good story to tell at the bar but most likely lacks a family, a retirement, and a normal life.

To each his own. Flame on.

This is where I'm at also. Anymore, the money issue is just salt on the wound. Even if it payed well, I'm still gone way the hell too much! I still live out of hotel, still miss so much at home, and still have the stress of commuting or the stress of ripping the family up and moving 'cross country. But to not get paid well for how much I am asking my family to sacrifice, let alone what we as pilots give up - well we all know we get the short end of the stick.

For the first while, it wasn't an issue, but as time goes and I get older, my priorities are really changing. And I'm realizing my priorities may not be compatible with this job. I used to not mind being on the road, staying in the hotels, but now the entire time I'm on a trip, I just long to be home with my family. Overnights are becoming miserable. I have to be honest, I've got a wife who's health has recently started declining - I've had to take two months off in the past year while she was hospitilized - and that is perhaps my biggest stress of being gone for days at a time.

And just to be clear, I don't fault anyone for loving this job. If that's you - fantastic! I'm not getting down on you at all, and I think it's great you are where you belong. You are among the lucky few who truly love what they do. I used to be there myself, but I've now become one of those whom I never thought I would - someone seriously considering walking away for good. Maybe. :) I love to fly - just don't like everything else that comes with it.

I do hate my job, as it is now I know I would like it alot better job if I could pay my bills (not a riddle loan) and not have to be gone most of the month. The being broke thing is the biggest killer. I'm not one of thoose guys that sits up front and BI@#% the whole 4 day I just save it all up for you guys on APC so your just going to have to put up with it.

fosters 04-14-2008 08:36 PM

Without a "riddle loan" it's damn easy to make ends meet even on 1st year pay, that is if you don't drive a new H3 or something. 2nd year pay is even easier, 3rd year pay amazing, and oh my God what am I going to do with all this money @ CA pay.

No, you're not going to be putting a 20% down payment on a $1,000,000 home right out of college but you won't be wondering if you're going to eat either.

ExperimentalAB 04-14-2008 09:46 PM

fosters...life would be just too easy without the damn loans! Gosh ;)

fosters 04-14-2008 09:47 PM

I agree, I took it as he did not have one. If so I apologize. Paying $1000/month would certainly kill your ability to make ends meet.
