Default Tax deductions

Anyone know of a good website or two with suggestions for itemized deductions, such as dry cleaning, van driver tips, crash pad expenses, that kind of stuff ? I've always just done the standard return. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated...

Marc Enzi is a pilot with XJT and a CFP who has been doing tax prep for years. He has a per diem calculator that also has sections for other expense deductions.

You can try turbotax.com. It's a great deal, however, to be honest with you, your standard deduction is more than you will probably get as a renter and single person (if that describes yourself). I had $1,000 in job hunting expenses, $800 in moving expenses, and some other stuff that put my itemized deductions at around $3,500 last year but I got more back by using hte standard deduction. It really wasn't worth my time going back and doing it.

EDIT: Crash pad expenses aren't deductible. SERIOUSLY read up on what you can and can't deduct on the IRS website or use an accountant.

Generally you are right, but there are exceptions. If you were in a crashpad temporarily, you might be able to deduct it. The usual warning applies: consult a tax pro to be sure.

These are some people that I have been referred to. I haven't used any of them myself.

Default moving exp.

Moving expenses are an adjustment to income. Not a deduction. Adjustments are much better than deductions.
