Pilots Accused of Sleeping on go! Flight Fired
http://kgmb9.com/main/content/view/5829/76/
The two go! Airlines pilots accused of falling asleep on a short hop from Honolulu to the Big Island last February have been fired. KGMB9 first uncovered this story after radar tracks showed Flight 1002 overshooting Hilo by 15 miles. Air traffic controllers frantically tried to reach the crew for almost 20 minutes, before the plane eventually turned back to Hilo and landed safely. The pilots were taken off flying duties pending an investigation. A spokesperson for Mesa Airlines, the parent company of go!, released a statement to KGMB9, "After a thorough internal investigation into the incident on February 13 in which go! Flight 1002 overflew the airport at Hilo, Mesa has terminated the employment of both pilots involved." KGMB9's Stacy Loe has been investigating the incident, and has other new details about what happened in the cockpit that morning. Look for her exclusive reports Thursday on KGMB9 News at 5, 6, 10pm. |

Per Mesa SOP those two pilots were probably over worked and on the back side of the clock and the only thing they should be faulted with is NOT calling fatigued. This should be a lesson to everyone that while you might be harassed into not calling fatigued, the company would surely fire you for falling asleep, and I am not just talking about Mesa but any airline. So the sure bet is if you are tired is just call time out because it beats getting fired. |
Wow, that really bites for those two. I wish them good luck

I agree 100% with the above post. Rest requirements are a freekin joke! 8 hours is bull$hit.
But yet we all seem to be okay with it and keep going back to work. If enough of us actually grew some balls (myself included) and called in fatigued, maybe the stupid a$$ faa would take that as a hint that there is a problem. In there eyes everything is okay because there have been no accidents and pilots seem to be okay with it. I cannot tell you how many times I started to doze off in a cockpit because of the schedule and rest we had the night before..........ridiculous |
