Just a rumor about ASA...
I heard that tomorrow (today, really, since it's after midnight) they are going to announce the Orlando base. Not sure of any details, whether it'll be a virtual base or a real one. I'm assuming it'll be jet only.
|
ASA FO up in C-tower the other night said he expected MCO and/or CVG as the main rumors floating around for bases...I told him that if they happened I would hope they'd last longer than that nice LAX experiment last year:cool:
|
wow that ll make things really intersting thats for sure, if anything itll be nice to split things up and not have everything right here in ATL, it ll give people some options , esp commuters...we will have to stay tuned i guess
|
being a S. FLA guy... it would be nice to get on with them... Then of course, it would be nice if they were still hiring..
|
Shows how ridiculous Comair closing MCO was, thanks Delta.
|
so if they open an mco base it will be closed in what two years at the most? isnt that how long chq and f8 had their mco bases?
|
Im kinda new at this Part 121 thing... Can someone quickly define what a virtual base would be? I'm still on the Part 91 side of flying, havent had much contact with this environment...
Sorry for the silly question... Thanx! |
Virtual Base would be an airport that you would check in at the gate agent desk or computer small ops center there ( perhaps an existing one of another airline ) - Thereby avoiding the need to commute from home to domicile
|
Additionally, there is no support staff, chief pilots, etc... Just the bare bones for an operation/base at an outstation.
|
I'm sure that would be a pretty senior base? I have a few friends at ASA who live in the area, and I know they'd much rather go there then commute to ATL!
|
the Orlando Sentinel had an article a few weeks ago saying that Delta was reducing its Orlando operation to 25 flights per day, including mainline and regional flights. I wouldn't count on any permanent DCI base in MCO. They simply can't compete against Jet Blue, Airtran, and SouthWest on the domestic market there.
|
So that means they would get at the plane they are going to staff in MCO rather than ATL?
Thanks for the help fellas! |

A Comair gate agent in CVG stopped me in the terminal yesterday and asked me if the rumors were true regarding an ASA base in CVG. Apparently, the same info has been swirling up there as well.
I'll believe it when I see it, but I will say that the rumors have been getting stronger about MCO and CVG. If this comes to pass, I know ALOT of crews who will gladly take the change of scenary. One thing is for sure, it should boost our on-time performance if we could spread the flying to other bases. ATL is killing our D-0 goals, no matter how hard the company and crews try to achieve an on-time performance. Will it happen? We'll see.........Will it work? Let's hope! |

Why would ASA have a CVG base with Comair being right there? Am I missing something? Do any of the other DCI carriers have a base in someone else's HQ? |

CHQ has a base in CVG, Shuttle has a crew base in ATL as well.

Thanks guys. It just sounded weird to me. Of course, I can see the ASA side of things with improving performance which would be easier to do through CVG than through ATL. |
Recent announcement from the Comair company website, EPIC:
We expect to fly approximately 5 to 6 percent more block hours and between five and seven additional 50-seat aircraft beyond the original January forecast; and... Our flights will be redistributed with an even greater presence -- roughly 50 percent of our operation -- in the Northeast. |

Some discussion on the Comair board about this... in light of this ASA rumor, if we are "redistributing" the Comair flying from CVG to the northeast, maybe that means ASA will backfill some of our CVG flying? |
hmmmmm almost 5 pm and no announcement. It seems like almost every week someone says we are announcing the mco base. NOTHING has really happened and the may lines are out.
|
basically what i mean by that is if we were taking over orlando flying (enough to open a base) in May, doesn't anyone think that would have been reflected in the 50 seat lines?
|
I heard from an ASA CP that the MCO and CVG base rumor is pretty solid, anything I have heard from him is usually is true.
Just my $.02 |

well someone has to take up the slack that freedom is losing in MCO, there probably getting some of there flying out of CVG also, thats probably where all these rumors are coming from

well we just got a bulletin in my email about MCO operations and the location of our crew lounge and its access code, sounds like the base in MCO is pretty official to me!
|
We did receive an Info Bulletin about MCO operations today regarding where to find the crew lounge, etc etc. No news on a base there, though.
Bronco you beat me to it. |
