Default Just a rumor about ASA...

I heard that tomorrow (today, really, since it's after midnight) they are going to announce the Orlando base. Not sure of any details, whether it'll be a virtual base or a real one. I'm assuming it'll be jet only.

ASA FO up in C-tower the other night said he expected MCO and/or CVG as the main rumors floating around for bases...I told him that if they happened I would hope they'd last longer than that nice LAX experiment last year

being a S. FLA guy... it would be nice to get on with them... Then of course, it would be nice if they were still hiring..

Im kinda new at this Part 121 thing... Can someone quickly define what a virtual base would be? I'm still on the Part 91 side of flying, havent had much contact with this environment...

Sorry for the silly question...

Thanx!

Virtual Base would be an airport that you would check in at the gate agent desk or computer small ops center there ( perhaps an existing one of another airline ) - Thereby avoiding the need to commute from home to domicile

Additionally, there is no support staff, chief pilots, etc... Just the bare bones for an operation/base at an outstation.

I'm sure that would be a pretty senior base? I have a few friends at ASA who live in the area, and I know they'd much rather go there then commute to ATL!
