ASA Commuting/QOL
I just got hired with ASA this past week and currently live in Boston...just curious on how commutable it would be. I m hoping to get the CRJ 200 which is what most guys/gals are getting. RSV is 1month or so if that right now...IM planning on getting a crashpad in ATL of course after training (training of course is my number one priority right now) but I would like to know if anyone commutes from the northeast...currently, there are 20 non stops per day between BOS-ATL and vice versa...also my family lives in Portland Maine and ASA does 5-6 flights a day out of there direct....so from what it seems these two locations are one leg commutes and may seem doable esp after I hold a line....any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.. thank you in advance...oh yea,,,,and hows Quality of Life at ASA???? from those that Ive talked to have said that they like the company and enjoy it....any advice on this would help too!

I don't think it will be too bad of a commute. I have friends that have 3 leg commutes. That would suck!! If they have that many flights in and out it shouldn't be that bad. The real consideration is how many are ASA flights because you can reserve jumpseats and get priority even over more senior guys. I am a commuter and have had trouble once. That was because a flight was cancelled. My prob is that there aren't enough flight into my itty bitty airport. So if one flight is canceled I sit around for 5 hours waiting on the next. It shouldn't be that bad. Plus I remember getting an email saying that ASA was starting back into BDL. Not sure if you live in Boston itself but they are starting that at some point.
As far as ASA...I a like it. Just do a search in the forums and everything has eben written before. Nothing has changed.. They are starting contract negotiations again at the end of the month and we'll see where that puts us.
Good luck

hey guys got a question for you ASA guys? What are the upgrade mins at ASA? The reason I ask is that i am thinking of leaving my current Regional to go to ASA? I will be giving up about 6 months of seniority at my current airline. However with ASA hiring all of these really low time guys, I am wondering if a lot of them will not be able to upgrade when their number comes up because of their low times. Leaving a shorter upgrade for the guys who have the flight time mins?? What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I'm not sure the numbers for upgrades now. They just changed them...I do know that. As far as us not being able to hold it when the number comes....I doubt it will get to that. They are saying two years until upgrades minimum....contrary to popular belief the MAJORITY of pilots hired currently are 800+. There are a few really low time people, but my new hire class average was about 1100 (2 months ago). I seriously doubt we'll fly so little/upgrade so quick that we won't be able to hold it when we get there. Maybe a few for the age rule....

that's a shame........ it's a prerequisite at DAL. lots of riddle, myself included, but i think i know the sort you mean. although i would submit we riddle grads have hardly cornered the market on Napoleon complexes.

Well since you are at Delta then you know that by the time riddle grads get there, they have already had their attitude "readjustment". We have to deal with these guys straight out of the fantasy camp in DAB...
