Where did you hear 24? Just curious. That's a lot of people. I'll be at the Clarion Sunday night. Really anxious though. What kind of experience do the other applicants have?

Other regionals have also had trouble filling their new hire classes lately. Maybe this is a good trend??? :D

I just wondered because I saw on aviationinterviews that in December a couple people said they were interviewing lots of people for very few slots. I just hope that they are interviewing 24 people because they need that many instead of interviewing 24 to fill 5 slots.

I was hired by Colgan in June 05. For the most part the tech. part of the interview was relatively easy. What the Colgan's are looking for are positive people that want to work and not bi$ch and moan to crew scheduling. So go in smiling and dont be arrogant, if you dont know the answer to a question dont start reciting the FAR's just give them your best answer and if its wrong admit you dont really know. I fly with a Captain this month who interviewed applicants last month and he told me this is what he's looking for, somebody who he can fly with that will listen to suggestions, not a know it all. you will be just fine. Tell them you are more interested in sticking around to upgrade and moving on to a major rather than staying six months and heading off to an RJ carrier. The Colgans know that their airline is just a stepping stone for us as pilots but dont want to through money down the drain either. Your probably looking at a good 4-5yrs in a turboprop before your competitive enough to move on so they want to know you'll be here. I wouldnt be surprized if there are only 10 spots or so, right now even though there is a lot of hiring going on at the regionals there are plenty of applicants and even Colgan can afford to be pickey. Chuck Colgan is one of a few children of Sen. Colgan's and his main job is hiring so I think he likes to interview, it makes him feel important, but he really is a nice guy. I've seen you post a lot about Colgan so I can tell you really want to be here, let them know that. Make eye contact and talk to all the interviews not just one in particular.Well good look and thought i just try to help if I could. ;)

This has been my goal for a long time now, although not for the reasons that some people might be trying to get there. Colgan has a base where my wife is from and where we want to live. I'm not interested in going to another regional because flying a jet just isn't my dream. Call me crazy. I may, sometime in the not-so-near future, be interested in giving a try at the majors, but right now, I just want to get a position where I'll be home at night, upgrade fairly quickly, and most importantly, learn a TON. I see Colgan as the vehicle that will allow me to do those things. I'll keep ya posted, and I hope to see ya on the line.

We need FO's. If they like all 24 they will take all 24. You are not competing against your fellow interviewie for just a few slots. The decisions are made on a pilot by pilot basis. You have to pass the test and the sim check (nothing complicated, no tricks, just looking for good IFR skills) and, as stated in a previous post, in the interview they just want to get to know you. Since they have broken it into two days you can expect a big group.

If it comes up in the interview let them know that while you'll be looking forward to bidding that particular base, but both you and your wife have agreed YOU ARE WILLING TO GO ANYWHERE in the Colgan system until you can bid the base. Don't leave them with the impression it's that particular base or bust. You can get just about any base within a couple of months. They like the fact you'll stay in a base and want to live there. But they get nervous when they hear it's the "only" base for you...

When I was there they told us 10 slots to be filled. There was 18 of us.
