Everyone forgets that if we drill in Alaska, North Dakota, or wherever, it will not help our gas prices or oil situation one bit. That oil will be sold by the oil companies to the highest bidder. That oil is not "ours" and belongs to the oil companies that have the drilling rights and if you think they are going to use it to help the USA and push our gas prices back down, keep dreaming!

It's true. We drill the oil it will only be sold to the highest bidder. It's a hell of a scam.
The other funny thing is why we don't have refineries running at capacity. Near all are around 50% or so. Takes a hell of a rig to run off of a barrel of pure dino juice. |

According to http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/mopueus2A.htm , US percent utilization of refinery capacity was at 83% in March 2008, the most recent available data. While this is five to seven percent below average over the last ten years, it is certainly more than 50%. Edit: Found another page (http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pe...dcus_nus_w.htm) that shows weekly data: 87.90% for 5/23/08 |
