Why we have an oil shortage
A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~ Well, there's a very simple answer. ~~~ Nobody bothered to check the oil. ~~~ We just didn't know we were getting low. ~~~ The reason for that is purely geographical. ~~~ Our OIL is located in : ~~~ ALASKA ~~~ California ~~~ Coastal Florida ~~~ Coastal Louisiana ~~~ Wyoming ~~~ Colorado ~~~ Kansas ~~~ Oklahoma ~~~ Pennsylvania and Texas ~~~ Our dipsticks are located in DC Any Questions? NO?...Didn't think So. |

I agree. That said, the weakening of the dollar is also a factor. As is supply. Not sure what the order is, but the fact is we're more dependent on foreign oil than we were 10 years ago. Drilling in ANWR, for example, would produce about 1,000,000 barrels per day, decreasing our dependence on foreign sources by 5%. It would also give us at least some counterbalance to the whims of OPEC.

The thing I don't understand is when certain groups say "Don't drill in Alaska (or wherever else) because it will ruin a beautiful landscape." If we don't drill on our own country, we're just going to have to buy oil from another country, effectively letting them "ruin" their landscape. It seems kind of selfish and downright expensive to play that game.

You forgot the Bakken oil field in western North Dakota. It's estimated to have 200 billion barrels (some estimates ranged as high as 900 billion) of oil in it. Now whether or not that number comes true, it's still a promising number that might help us with the current situation we're in.

haha, yeah instead of spending nearly 7 years in North Dakota gettin edumacated and playing with airplanes etc. I could have invested that money/time into the oil industry and worked my way in there. I'd probably have my OWN jet by now with plenty of money to play with. But hey! being broke and flying cancelled checks isn't ALL bad! :rolleyes:

What are you guys talking about? There is no shortage of oil, there is just a shortage of qualified oil willing to be traded at such low prices ;)
